I've never been to Santa Pod and I'm itching to find out what the Elise and the Gixer are capable of. Having spoken to Justin Baker on this I think a PH RWYB day would be in order. The next public day is on Saturday 10th June and then Saturday 1st July, any takers?

Blipi, if you've still got the courtesy car, surely that would be a crowd pleaser...

At the risk of being controversial, why on earth would you want to?

I did sprint and drag-race for sveral years (on bikes), quite seriously for a couple of seasons. At its best it's an exciting and technically involving sport. At RWYB level, it's generally painful. I don't say that to denigrate anyone's vehicle or driving skills but normal road stuff performs woefully on the strip and you will only go away disappointed, having taken literally 1000's of miles life off various consumable items of running gear (esp. when the red mist decends, which it will). To give an example, most so called 10s bikes will run close on 12s until/unless they're tweaked/ridden 'properly'. Power shifting on the limiter isn't kind to gear boxes and I wouldn't want to treat my dialy ride to that, just to shave a 10th here or there; it's no different for cars, except 17 or 18 seconds for the qtr is the norm for even 'quick' stuff and that's way too long to watch cars in a straight line (even nice sounding ones); you can stand by the A14 for free and they're generally going way faster than most sports cars will accellerate to in the qtr

If you just fancy a trip to the Pod, lets go en masse to a proper meet where some fuel bikes/cars will be running, and you'll see why I say this

Good point, gary. I`ve not been since i was at school though, and it`s just up the road....It`s a LOCAL drag-strip, for LOCAL people..

Have to agree with Gary. To watch the funny cars and proper dragsters is great to watch, but watching all the chavs in their 205's and saxo's just doesn't do it for me. And I certainly wouldn't want to harm my baby for the sake of a couple of 10ths.

We're at the Summer Nationals (17-18th June) next... then the next Santa Pod event is the Euro Finals in September..

The summer nationals will be rammed full of british racers.. largely all sportsman with a sprinkling of british Methanol.. The Euro Finals is the last round of the European FIA drag racing tour.. That's an impressive event to go to..

As far as the RWYB is concerned.. A lot of people will drive their cars a lot harder on the road than they can on the strip.. remember, traction on street tyres isn't great on the line at a dragstrip!

If anyone wants any more details, feel free to drop me a line..

Summer Nats are indeed at Santa Pod..

I rather like that video as well... We've just fitted a new rear axle though and are now running down into the 9.75's..
