Now thats a Jaguar worthy of the name. I probably couldn''t afford one but it would be a real shame not to have something like this to aspire to.

Love the front and side view, but they should drop the Ford Cougar style tail lights.

I really can't fault this...it's beautiful and got that long, low slung, you don't want to f**k with this Cerbera look about it. Edited by apache on Wednesday 5th September 21:20

Sorry to disagree. Front view? Four eyes springs to mind. Side profile (front) looks like Cerbera that has hit proverbial brick wall!

Oh yeah, forgot. The interior... those seats! Yuk, yuk and gaa gaa. Good job the transmission tunnel is so high - perhaps that to stop the thigh hugging seats (joke) from tipping you from driver's seat to passenger seat when you enter the first corner above 5mph! Christ, who designed them? Mr Ornamentalmorethanuseful.

Jaguar should produce this car. As long as they dont go stupid with the price it would be a runaway success... Bloody hell I'd buy one! (if I had the cash of course).

Don't get too exscited chaps, just take a look at the slab sided, fat-arsed lump of car they have managed to turn the F Type into. Rich...

A nice looking jag but the front wants to slop more. But at the end of the day it will cost more than the Cerbera and not be as quick but with more reliability beind it Anf the seats you can see are the back ones and it should have a six speed manual box in it

Now what about an additional "Jag" forum, then I could bore you all about my XJR and it's 370BHP. Anyway Jaguar already have a coupe it's called an XK8, unless the R Type is a design project based on the XK8 but with an empahsis on the S type look.

Jaguar got a similar though less exited review on the XkR-R and that seems to have died a death. I can't see them spending time and cash on a concept whilst not being serious about production - I think they are just being cagey. Beautifull machine!

Dont worry guys, I work for Jag, and that is not the design for the F-type (which is going to be mid engined), or the new XK8, both of thoes are going to be a quite a lot different, although the XK8 is probably going to take some of the styling ideas from it, possibly the grille, as the current front ends are a bit dated. And the XKR-R has not died yet, there are still plans to make the supension, six speed box and LSD available as options in the future, not sure about the engine mods, but i think the exhaust and gorgeous carbon intake are being looked at as well. and John$$ dont cancel the x-type just yet, the 3.0 sport is still a great car. And the Type R is due out in a couple of years, which should give the S4 a run for its money, and will have a 6 speed auto, and possibly manual, So all is not lost!

Some very american design influences here. General reactions in the office were not favourable. The rear especially is clumsy. And now they're going to mess with the F-type which won massive adoration by the public in its original form. So why change it? I'd already begun negotiating with the wife - then I saw the latest drawings - maybe not then.

Too true about the American influence. This means they'll undoubtedly put a slushmatic in it, make the V8 sound like a 1.4 and make it weigh 2.5 tonnes. From personal experience, the XK8 looks great but is the worse drivers car I have ever owned. Still, it had a valet parking button! When will we stop trying to turn great cars into fat wobble wagons to suit Americans!?

Exactly, I remember seeing it at last year’s motor show and it was a quite stunning piece of design work, clearly the screen couldn't work on a road car but what the heck! The artists renderings in last weeks magazines were awful, the nose looked like every other schoolboy's drawing of a 50's racer, the tail looked like a barge and what on earth was going on with the wheel arch flares? Sorry Eddy but I don't get it, why take a fantastic design like that and ruin it? Sadly it looks like Jaguar just want another “Me too” Porsche Boxter rival… a Joxter perhaps? Rich…

There were lots of resons for the change in the F-Type design, mainly powertrain packaging and regulation reasons (the windscreen wouldnt pass 2005 crash regs). Also the design team thought the styling was too retro. thats just politics as it was styled by the late Geoff Lawson, and the new guy wanted to do his own design. Shame as it is one of the most gorgeous designs ever, on of the reasons i joined the company. But the new mid engine design is meant to be pretty decent and nothing like the press sketches, a lot more agressive i have been told, to compete with the Boxster and TVR. You will just have to wait a couple of years to see it! The slush box issue is being looked into, but dont moan too much, as thats my department, but i take the point. The new 6 speed autos for the next generation cars are pretty good, and there are manuals in the pipeline, but unluckily autos are what most people want, so thats what we sell, you just have to shout louder.
