Why can't I change default mail to express?

For some reason I cannot change my wifes default mail to outlook express as every time I do it always reverts back to outlook? I have no problem with my account so why not hers I have changed her to Administrator level but it always defaults back to outlook??
I have tried changing this on outlook as well by unchecking make outlook your default but still no luck!
This is doing my head in!
