I'm tempted by a 4200 and have seen one on eBay which is interesting. Thing is, it is an insurance write-off. The guy selling it seems sincere and has provided a full explaination, the headlines being, it was driven into a Ford (small river in this case) and the engine flooded. Full engine rebuild was first thought to be required and the car written off given the £25k cost. It actually only required a top-end which was still a cool £11k, but it remains under full Maserati warranty till 03/07 and has full dealer service history.

Am I mad for even thinking about a car with this "unique" history? Polite and objective responses invited.

Cheers.

Sounds reasonable. If you go for it you can fit the tubi for the 4200 that is for sale on e-bay!

Yeh why not? if the whole car is under warranty and not just the repairs then there are no financial problems for a year or so, even then you could extend the warranty I guess ( £ though) price seems a little high for an insurance write off though, if you could get it for 22,500 I think that would be about right.

Must be damned hard to get rid of with current car market and such a narrow target audience (as it will be when you come to sell) should make it easy to negociate hard on.

Great car, love mine.

still tryin to get rid of it then Bluesatin sorry.......

He is looking for £30k.
Is he being unrealistic?

Doesnt sound too bad, but no dealer wil ever touch it.

But you can buy mine for 32k. Same colours, spec, less miles and not an insurance write-off!!

£30k errrr, I think so, as stepR1 has illustrated there are 4200s of that spec out there for not much more than he's looking for, in addition to this, IMO an IWO will be hit much harder (%value wise) on this type of badge (Ferrari, Porsche, Aston ...) because a large percentage of the purchase price is built on the Kudos of the marque, IWO status takes a bigger chunk of this image with these brands than say TVR, BMW Audi etc, not demeaning these brands in anyway but I think they trade as much on their ability as they do on their image.

£22,500 would be worth it I'd say, no more though, phone a dealer and get a trade in £ on a 'phantom' same spec car and see what I mean

good luck with your sale StepR1 have you enjoyed it?

pvapour,

Its been great, had a couple of minor issues but loved the car. The design is just awesome, have done a couple of European tours in it with much more expensive machinery and it still attracts attention and turns heads. Unlike more expensive German stuff.

Have some great footage of the pyreenes and the Alps following a 360 (very closely).

But on the insurance write-off, the guy I bought mine from reckons its worth 18k to 20k and dont expect to ever sell it!! His words not mine.

Guy's, many thanks for the valuable information and feedback so far.
I am sensing it is to best steer clear given resale issues and purchase price.
