Dear All,
I thought I'd chip in my ha'penny's worth and share some comments made by an OPC off the record. He maintains that between them in the South East network, they currently have an unprecendented 25 low mileage 996 turbos in stock.
Sounds like the shoe's on the other foot in bargaining terms for a change?
Interesting.
Wonder why they get so many back, though.
Are they just *too good* for a sports car, maybe so competent and driveable they start to lack character compared to other supercars, eg TVRs, Ferraris or Lamborghinis?
For me , it's the ultimate all-weather supercar. I can remember Daz hoofing his in third in heavy rain at about 40mph, and once the torque got apportioned to the front, it took off like a scalded cat with no wheelspin... the traction control didn't even get set off. Mental!

Probably a mixture of the following:
1 - Too many people thinking they can buy them, keep em 2 months and make a profit.
2 - Porsche building more turbos to satisfy immediate demand and up profits. In the long run this will cause problems as owners will suffer higher depreciation.
3 - I can't imagine the stockmarket and the lack of decent bonuses about are helping issues to much either.
4 - I have heard people say they are too quick! with all the safety scamera businesses up and running.

sure a sign of the times, but also it is a lot of money to spend on a second hand car. Those with money of this order may just buy a new one.
I would like a 996 TT,but I am very happy with my 02 996 as a car.Only my opinion but up to 100 mph there is not much in it(in the dry) & I much prefer 2wd 911.
The 4wd & 420/450 makes sense & totally agree my car is not in the same league in wet conditions.
The thing is although the TT is a better car,I would have to pay an extra £30k for an 02...As good as it is I personally don't consider that value.
Trading markets on a relative value basis has enabled me to buy my Porsche,& that is why I will keep a C2 & £30k...
No intention meant to upset any 996 TT owners,i am just too tight!

Sorry to come back on this thread straight away...but from what I have read elsewhere....
Porsche makes more profit on these cars than others,so they are happy to make them....I am sure they will continue, also....
When the 997 comes out apparently at the end of 2004,as Porsche always do they start with a Carrera ,the turbo supposedly comes out in 2007.So a 996TT may take a hit in value in the short term, but it will probably be undisbuted king of the wet road until 2007 & the introduction of the 997TT...

Met someone yesterday with a 996 TT with performance pack. Four dealers weren't interested in his business 'cos they wanted to sell him new cars at £20k over list for immediate delivery, but he was happy to put the money down and wait for the car...he got what he wanted eventually from AFN in central London
