Monaro in local scrapyard
Discussion
I've located a grey 05 model Monaro in the local scrapyard - anyone written theirs off recently? Apparently 2000 miles on the clock. Came from Lance Owen. First time I've seen the engine bay in one of the later models and there seems to be a number of changes from my 04 model. The car in question has been modded from the base - twin exhaust, binnacles on dash, its got the bonnet vents but bonnet is wrecked, car was rolled. Leather interior getting worse by the day unfortunately - had been left open to elements. I've got some photos here I'll post up - waiting on dealer deciding on whether he's going to break the car or keep it as a track car. How can I tell what the brakes are - the calipers are red and have monaro and pbr? printed on them - are those the VXR stoppers or are the 05 like that as standard?
yeah I've got the chassis number for the car - manufactured date as Feb05. Not long back from second look at car - took my 04 model over for comparison. Engine is earmarked for a tvr owner when the insurance is finally sorted out unless the scrapyard owner decides to keep it as a track/drift car. If its getting broken I'm going to grab as many bits and pieces as I can from it to keep as spares - things like the glass thats still intact, lights, bulbs, switches, brakes, suspension, any interior trim thats not totally rotten. Will see how reasonable the guy's gonna be with prices. Obviously I'll keep you lot informed whats going and what prices he's asking in case anyone wants some bits and pieces and I havent already claimed them

Oh dear Lord !!
Thats the same as my beast and its not nice seeing one in such as poor state. Oh well that about 24 of the 25 possibly on the UK roads. Looks like one ex Odyssey !!
Looks like someone was a little careless to roll it though - notice the passenger front wheel is gone - could have hit a curb or something.
The details you mention are the stock things on the 2005 (VZ) Monaros and are most of the main reasons I bought over the 04 models.
Cheers

on the subject of the occupants I don't know is the answer but it raised a question re the airbags. When I slid sideways into a tree before xmas my airbags never activated, here we have a car thats taken some fairly hefty damage and again not one of the airbags has deployed - rather worrying. Just how hard do you have to skelp a monaro to make the airbags deploy?

Passenger cell looks pretty much intact, so long as they were wearing their seatbelts, they should have been OK.... maybe a few bumps and bruises and probably a fairly quick Colonic...
front airbags are only designed to go off in front or rear collisions. If they went off in a roll over where the exact location of the occupant is uncertain (ie hanging upside down in the seatbelt, up against the A/B pillar) they could cause more damage than good. Course if you have a 5 or 7 series beemer for example, you have a choice of around 8 that could go off, depending on what sort of crash you have.

front bumper - fairly light damage, could probably be repaired quite simply. Bonnet has fairly nasty creases across the moulded shape - be difficult to repair without using a lot of filler I suspect.
Didnt realise so many bits came as standard on the 05 model. Much prefer the front end on my 04 plate. Whats the story with fitting the binnacles to an 04 plate - do I just need the dials - are the sensors installed and wired into the car loom? Is it a simple plug in?

and another in a northern scrapyard by the looks of it - 04 vxr this time.

I would also be interested in the front bumper, but remember that you will also need the front bumper as the headlights are only driving lights & full beam as the front bumper has the side lights & fog lamps
I would also be interested in the binnacles if you decide you don't want them.
I will stand in line
Rob
*EDIT* forgot to add that the headlamps are a different shape to the 2004 so if you change the front bumper you will also need the headlights
