Car cuting out when hot
Discussion
Just been out for a run having fitted new coil, new magnacor lead set and new plug shrouds after some previous problems with stalling and then not being able to get it going again untill things cool down. It ran beautifully even in a traffic jam. Great I thought as I pulled into Homebase car park, problem solved.......then.......you,ve guessed it.....it stalled and would not start. When it stops it seems to do so suddenly and will sometimes start after a few minutes, run for a few seconds before stopping again (fuel starvation?). Eventualy it will start after colling for an hour or so. I imagine something electrical is breaking down when it gets hot. Hence the new coil and leads etc. Just as I was about to go and do some shopping for stuff I don't need!!! while it cooled down I thought I will try one more thing that I remember reading in this forum....I changed over the 2 fuel relays in the footwell by the ECU incase one was faulty, and hey presto, away it went. What I do not understand is if this was the problem why could I hear the fuel system presurising when I turned the ignition on when it would not start and secondly why are there 2 relays anyway? I would love to think I have found the problem and just need a new relay (I pressume these are readily available?) or was it something else that had cooled down. I need convincing, Other than this the car runs well. Any comments would be appreciated.
