I am going to re-spray the grills.

Advice please.

Should I undercoat first and if so, what type?

Just mask off the surrounds and spray lightly with black gloss. Repeat when necessary (weekly sometimes)

I need to do this too. I think, mask off and then spray with hammerite matte paint.

Not wanting to sound chavish, but I was thinking about replacing all the grills (front, back, engine bay, side pod etc) with a silver raw grill, firstly cause I think it would look nice on my car and also, cause it won't show up the chips anymore.

Speaking of grills does anybody have a different way of fixing the rear number plate. Mines always falls off and I need to keep repositioning it. Consequently my rear grill isn't looking it's best - thankfully underneath the number plate.

But any other colour wouldn't suit me, whereas Burberry Check would suit you perfectly

30mm M6 bolts, big penny washers (30mm) and nylocs behind the mesh does the job nicely. I use cross heads rather than bolt heads and just touch in the heads with a dab of paint.

Dont put the numberplate on the grill, stops heat getting out. 2 inch high plate stuck on just below the grill. i think the back of the car looks better/meaner with the lower grill removed.

I agree it must block the airflow.

Have you been stopped by the rozzers yet for not having the plate illuminated?

Jeez, what exhaust have you got on there? Looks the dog's doodahs!!
