have a look at someting like the Nikon S5 or Panasonic FX9...stuff like the Casio/HP seem to always get slated in reviews for the quality of their lens.

I guess on the other hand, if it's just for nights out you wont be too fussed with picture quality??

Got a Casio Z600 for Mrs LongQ a couple of weeks ago at the Jessops price. She has not used it much yet but I reckon the image quality is fine for the nature of shots one is likely to want to take with it. Stunning at the price! Just don't expect much if you want to shoot fine art landscapes and anlarge tthem to the size of a living room wall.

My youngest has a Casio Z57 from about a year ago. Seems to work well enough.

I recently bought a Canon Ixus Wireless which is fine as well but just don't ask any of them to shoot with flash well outside the optimum flash range and expect to avoid red-eye, though the Ixus seems slightly more prone than the others.

I also have a Pentax S5i which I have had for about 18 months and that too is fine to use, though I thought the Casio Z57 produces more vibrant results from the same lens. I suspect the latest Casios may be a better bet than the latest Pentax more often than not.

All of them will fit on a shirt pocket, though the Canon, with its Wi-Fi antenna, is slightly larger.

Frankly at 150 notes you can't go too far wrong. But do buy a much larger SD card than the one supplied (if there is one supplied.)

I have a Casio Exilm EX-Z30 which I assume is a slightly older model than the one you are considering. My Casio has produced excellent results for what it is, I have been really impressed with it. Great little camera.

I have the Z500, bought it for 30 quid more that the Z600 a week before the Z600 came down to its current price. Oh well, what you gonna do!

I'm very pleased with it. For nights out its perfect with almost all shots coming out well in low to no light. You have to learn to play with the Best Shot function, it does make a difference for a lot of scenes. Day light shots come out well for the size of the camera, but again I need to learn to play with the settings a lot more. The video is excellent as well with sound.

Like LongO, bought a Z600 for the "boss" a month ago from Jessops. Really good price. She is a technical numptie of the first degree but even she can work it.(luckily she doesn't know about PH)
Camera is fine for every day shots and the cradle set up is great for charging and downloading.
The "boss" even shot a passable video clip of our TVRCC blast through a certain tunnel in the South East last Sunday.
For the money, it's superb.
