wet footwell carpets - V8S
Discussion
With the recent bad weather I've noticed that the driver's side footwell carpets are wet. They were were a bit damp a few months ago so I put a grommet in the hole in the footwell as suggested in 'The Bible'. It's only the driver's side, it's only the carpet under the seat and by the door - not on the transmission tunnel. The atlas in the back of the seat is not wet so I don't think it's coming from the roof (cf the previous posting of 13 March).
Any thoughts? - at least it could dry out a bit today.
Thanks
Giles

Mine used to do this too despite replacing the rubber door seal. On mine the door seal puckers where it goes around the tighter bends (just below the windscreen from vertical to horizontal). Water runs off of bonnet, down side of bonnet and into the gap between bonnet and door. The angle of the top of door causes the water to run into the door seal. With a good seal the water drains around door seal to exit onto sill. With the pucker in the seal water is able to make its way through the seal into the car above the ashtray, from where it drips down 'inside' the sill onto the carpet and fills the footwell. What I did to cure this was to fill the pucker in the seal with translucent flexible sanitary sealant and run a bead (2/3mm high) along the inner door edge forcing the water to run into the door seal further down, where the seal is better.

I've looked at the door seal and it must have shrunk a few inches. The gap at the top by the bonnet is about half an inch. If i push it back on then there's a gap at the bottom by the footwell which is half an inch and there's a strong current of air when driving. I guess I need a new door seal. Is this easy to do?
