I live near St Athan (nearish) and in the past have had the pleasure of the Battle of Britain flight circling waiting/going in for the display.
Static display at St Athan air show years ago that had a Buccaneer going through take off, attack, landing..all on jacks in a hanger. I suspect the motors were just ticking over

Ahhh yes, I forgot about that. I was at the West Malling airshow in 1992, when they had the red arrows and the vulcan in formation.

Its just that it does'nt sound as good as a merlin or a Vulcan. Never does, never will.

Stirling Moss's Migle Milia Mercedes. Was stainding about three feet away from it starting up at Goodwod festival a few years back.

One of the classic mags gave away a floppy vinyl (45rpm record) of the BRM a few years back. It sounded absolutely awesome. Never been lucky enough to hear it in the flesh.

My 3.8 E-type sounds pretty amazing if you drive through a tunnel.

Piston Engine - Rolls Royce Griffon (as fitted to later Spitfires and the Avro Shackleton). Much more meaty and aggressive than the older Merlin).
Bristol Siddeley Olympus - as fitted to the Avro Vulcan B2. Of course, upgraded versions of this engine power Concorde so the sound is still around for those who want to hear it).
I would have loved to have been able to see and hear a Saturn V moon rocket being launched - the first stage produced 7 1/2 million pounds of thrust. On its first ever launch the shock waves from the engines caused the press centre roof to collapse. The press centre was three miles from the launch pad. I'd still like to attend a Shuttle launch.

The Spyker C8 double 12 (especially the Stage V 620bhp version) sounds pretty awesome!!

A close 2nd is my Chimaera (with sports exhaust - V.loud) going though either the Hatfield tunnel, or the Newport tunnel on the M4!!!

Not my favourite engine; but when it worked it made a lovely noise! The race tuned 4.5 litre AJP8.

Did you see the one at Milldenhall just before it was flown away to be decommissioned?

That thing was absolutely increddible! Some jets make the earth shake under your feet ( there's a song in that...:scatchchin:...) on afterburn, going ballistic straight above you, but the Vulcan seemed only to have to be visable to take reality and toss it about like a rag doll.

Some things trancend the norm, and what that plane made was more than mere sound.
