what do I put in my TOM TOM??
Discussion
Hi Russ,
Id look on the multimap or mappy.com or even better the viamichelin.com websites
and pinpoint the nearest road to your campsite.
I did that for Beausejour, and narrowed it down to Boulevard des Italiens which is
basically the airport perimeter road.
Other than that you could try and get a Latitude/longitude from a detailed map???
Good Luck!

Cant you just put in 'Le Mans' or the nearest known town/address and then just scroll north/south/east/west until the cursor is on the site, then save as destination? It's what I do with my Navman.
SatNav, like spreadable butter, plasterboard fixings and glue, doesnt work.
Yup, that's what I've done - have stored the Expo car park as a POI (Place of Interest)in TomTom so should only be a matter of a few metres from my reserved parking space - hopefully!
TomTom5 Guide N138 or A28
Calais To Boulevard des Italiens N138
Select Calais(city) Calais(Ferry Port Should Display) to Rouen(city) Rouen(street/anywhere) By Fastest Route
When your about 10km from Rouen Select Lemans(city) Boulevard des Italiens(street) via shortest route
If you pick fastest for the Boulevard des Italiens it puts you back on the N28. To make sure you stick on the N138 all the way to Lemans goto the route map and choose anywhere along the N138 as a Via route. You should have a very pleasant journey via the scenic route.
Calais To Boulevard des Italiens A28
Select Calais(city) Calais (Ferry Port Should Display) to Lemans(city) Boulevard des Italiens (street) By Fastest Route. TomTom will automatically put you on the A28 all the way to Lemans(boring... scenic is better).
I think TomTom have been paid off by the owners of the new A28 route as every Fastest route is always redirected towards it.
Test it out on Advanced Planing if your still not sure.
Hope this helps.

be warned - tomtom works ok 95% of the time (used it thru switz, france italy etc), but just back from a pre-lemans trip through france. 3 cars blindly followed mr tomtom and ended up in the middle of buttf*** nowhere - miles away from where we wanted to be... there are some roads it just doesnt want to go on - I think its perfect if you want to go on motorways - but a bit of a road action and you could be in a world of pain...last year back from le mans we drove through a field on a single lane "road"....

As fabster rightly states trust TomTom too much and it will screw you. Always check the route before you follow TomTom blindly. I followed it once up a muddy hill in a lowered Tigra nearly got stuck surrounded by cow s***, it thinks everyone has a 4x4. Beware.

Remember TomTom and other devices like NavMan are Navigation AIDES, I always have an atlas in the car as a back up
I used to but now I do 'Advanced Planning' before I leave home to make sure TomTom can find where I'm going, the rest is up to it. Occasionally I'll ask it to find an alternative route to compare times and distances, otherwise I find it's pretty reliable - compared with my wife 'reading' an atlas it's extremely reliable!
I can't remember that last time I took an atlas, even on the continent.

Must admit I tend to pre plan a route for exactly the same reasons.

So there is a benefit to driving on your own. >> Edited by mutley on Thursday 1st June 14:02
