I have just had a quote for 2 types of tyre for my Chim from Blackcircles.com.
The SO3s are £91 each (front 15".) They have also included Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 tyres for £72. I had the Goodyears F1s on my MGF Trophy, and were great. however, I seem to remember people saying that the F1s were not very good for the Chimaera, is that right?
I have no doubt this thead has been done before, but I am a relative newcomer and opinions can change and products do get upgraded/updated.
Is the best option for a Chimaera still the trusty SO3s? I need to change mine in the next couple of months!

There seems to be only three choices when choosing tyres for the Chimaera , Bridgestone Potenza , Avon ZZ3 or Toyo Proxes , I personally ran SO2s on mine and they were superb people say the SO3 isn't quite so suited but I didn't try it so can't comment , I put ZZ3s on my new 17" rims and they work well , I haven't heard of anyone running Goodyears but I would ask around they might have worked on the M.G. but you've got a sports car now !!

if you do a search you will see that things haven't changed so much.
apparently all the sprinters run s03s and they are looking for any advantage they can get.
that's what i have on mine and i have no complaints.
everything i have read tells me that the toyos' sidewalls are on the thin side. don't remember what anyone said about zz's though.
do a search.

whatever you get make sure you give them a thorough appraisal

I know someone with Eagles on his Chim and he says they are quieter than what he had on there (not sure what they were though).

I have Eagle F1's on the Supra and they are a good tyre, with a nice tread pattern.

I thought the Toyo 15's had an incorrect speed rating for the Chim/Griff.

Hmmm but remember that the S03s are a new tyre with plenty of poor press and comments, sprinters have been running on the S02PP not the S03 and the new D3s are a very good all round tyre.
It will be interesting to see what people choose over the next two years. Old habits die hard.

Personally, I have found no problem with the S03s and the only bad feedback I have come across was from somebody trying to use extremely low profile tyres on huge rims. BTW I have found the S03s work better at lower pressures than the older S02/pp.

Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

S03s for me - had them on for 2000 miles - top notch grip in wet and dry. Toyos square-shouldered, wear faster and softer walls; Eagles ok but not for me. SO2 now almost impossible to get, RIP. Avons last for ever but always a compromise tyre IMHO. Tant.

I kinda beg to differ on the Avons , I have managed freefit centres for many years now so therefore have the run of the roost when it comes to tyres so no compromise was involved , do TVR compromise ? I only ask this as the new ZZ3 is standard on the Tamora.

Im running S03's on 17inch rims with no problems...

wet handling does seem better, and im actually getting less tram lining..

It should be pointed out that both shpub & greenv8s are successful sprinters & both running SO3s

Not so. Steve Heath has stated here that he has a large stock of S02PPs and intends to run on them. The S03 appears to be a good tyre but some wet handling characteristics are at least questionable and it may not be the best choice for an all weather road tyre.

thats funny the only thing i've heard about them ( other than the probs apache had on an early set of 17s)

was that they were better than so2's in the wet but not as good in the dry...

Tyres have changed a lot since S02s. We've had the S02PP and now the S03 from Bridgestone alone. What is important is the comparative performance between the tyres on the market now. In the dry the S03 appears hard to beat.

Running Eagle F1 GSD-3's here (GSD-2 on front as they didnt do them in -3 (at the time))

I find them a harder ride than my so-2s, but alot grippier, a HELL of a lot.. I fear for the drive shaft and diff now!!

At first, i hated them they were v.v.boncey and hard,,

then i realised, ATS had put 34psi in all round :/

10psi later, and they great...

noise is low, and they dont reall tramline, and wear is excellent, had them 7000 miles, and they still look like new!

Great in the wet too, never EVER locked them up to date...

The Toyo Proxes TX-1 I'm now running are great, better than the S0-2's I had before... If it's good enough for them to be fitted OEM...

Only gripes I heard about the toyos was that they gripped alot longer than so-2, BUT, when they let go, they let go big style, as oppposed to jsut drifting out, they would snap out, without warning,

I had T1s on all my previous cars, and they are an excellent tyre... but avoided them on Trev for this reason,

Chris

I had four new SO3s fitted by the Molesters to my car when I bought it .... and they are a fantastic tyre IMO.

People go on about wet roads, and not giving it too much power etc etc, but if you ain't got decent tread on your tyres, you've basically got no chance in a TVR, so makesure the tread and pressures are always correct. I give the Chim plenty of right foot in the wet and it sticks like glue. So far!
