Another Flat Battery.......

The Optimate was plugged into the cigar lighter, but not quite enough ! I should have checked.
Did the number plate bit, and got the battery charged..
Now the pump runs, the engine spins, but it don't want to start.
I have disconected the ECU for its 10 mins, and taken the battery off to let everything reset. But still no joy.
Have I got an alarm issue ? its a Meta and has been playing up (don't they all), it seems to function, activate/deactivate, locks/unlocks the doors, flashes the indicators, etc: the dash LED comes on solid for 10 secs after the ignition has been turned on, then goes out; is this right ?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Is your battery quite old?
Although it might charge up enough to look like it's alive, I found recently that once they start deteriorating or you try recharging them from near dead, you just don't get enough power to get the engine into life. I think it's quite common ("they all do that sir"!)

Yes I would like to eliminate the meta, again until I replace it with something else. (suggestions anyone ?)
The battery is 3 months old, and spins the engine enthusiastically, it leaves the voltmeter showing 11V+ while cranking.
Yes we do have a spark; so it must be fuel right ?
No the tank isn't empty !

That noise which starts when I turned the Ignition on, wasn't the fuel pump! It was two of the heater control motors in continuous free operation!
When we find out what is causing the fuel pump to not perform, we will have fixed it. We will then have to sort the heater out.
Putting my hand up is embarassing, I'm not normally stupid, honest !
