Im sure I saw something in the menu/manual about changing the timer from 2 seconds to 10, but cant for the life of me figure out how/where to do it.

I change mine in drive mode (single shot/High continuous/Low continuous/10sec/2sec). Which camera are you using?

It will only do 2 seconds if you set the mirror lock up in the custom functions (set CF-12 to a setting of 1). Otherwise it's 10 seconds. Why they couln't provide a simple 2/10 second timer option as standard I don't know!

I can change from high to low drive, plus single shot and timer, but cant find a menu option to change from 10 seconds to 2

I use a 30d.

I found the option you mentioned - what is mirror lock up anyway, doesnt one have to engage this to clean the sensor?

Will doing as you suggest turn the timer into a 2 second timer?

That's because there isn't one on the 30d.

Yes, doing what I suggest will make the timer 2 seconds (check page 98 of the manual).

Mirror lockup is a setting that locks the mirror in the open position when the shutter release is pressed. A further press of the shutter release then takes the shot. This prevents the camera vibrating due to the mirror movement when the shot is taken. Useful when using a very long lens / slow shutter speed.

Sensor cleaning does lock the mirror up but is a separate function and does not affect the timer.

I see. Another good reason to have 1 series then.

P.S. Now I remember it was the same in 10D I used to use.
