Rappel! - French road signs

Lots of french road signs have the word "Rappel!" underneath them. Does this mean, as I think it does, "Caution"? Google translates it as "Recall".

I've always understood them to mean danger/caution. Bit like the ! in a triangle sign we have here

I thought it was closer to "remember!", and it should be only on the repeaters not at the limit changes...

It means "Remember". Normally this word is added to warning signs that are repeats of previous ones. For example, if you have already driven past the 50 kph sign at the beginning of a speed restriction, another 50 kph sign might have "rappel" with it to remind you 'We've already told you this once scheissekopf'!

Just to clarify a bit, and be really pedantic , "rappel" in this case means "reminder". Pretty self-explanatory really...

Nel is right. Most often, you see this sign in a village. When you pass a village name sign, you automatically pass into a 50kph limit which applies until you see the village name sign with a red diagonal stripe through it. So, the "Rappel" sign is used to jog your memory as you whizz through villages at 100 plus!

The french coppers will show no mercy this year I suspect, as they have employed a load more cops just for trafpol duties and the government need the cash badly. You will be their pigeons if they catch you, so take it easy and best of luck.

I did put a ;-) at the end to cover myself from lawsuits. Plod will be out in force and the new stretch of Peage from Rouen will certainly need all your concentration and restraint this year if you don't want a very miserable and expensive weekend.
