I'd be very keen on the scoops but I dont reckon you'll have much luck. Whilst the scoops are beautifull they are also way overpriced.
If you have any luck I'd buy a pair.

They're expensive that's for sure, but carbon fibre is an expensive material and the Reverie stuff is properly autoclaved rather than laid up and lacquered like a lot of stuff. I've got them on the Can-Am and you really can't fault the quality.

Having dealt with Reverie in the past (nice blokes by the way), unless you can secure at least half a dozen orders, you're probably not going to get much in the way of discount.

No harm in trying though?

Yep they use autoclaved pre-preg carbon, carbon is really really expensive to make.
They brought Arrows F1 cloth cutting machine a few years back to save on wastage.

Then ad cost, labour and all the wastage material (and there is loads), plus the mould.

Well I'm after a set of side scoops so were up to 2 whooh.
Anyone else?

I am using the Reverie side scoops and the air box, see pic.

The Reverie quality is very good, did not have any problems, using it for 2 years now and still looks like new. Due to engine conversion to LS7 I will not be able to use the airbox any more, but will try to keep the side scoops. If anybody is interested, I will most probably have it available in Autumn.

Dont want to put it into Classifieds now because it is still a question of several months. Same applies by the way to my 383/600HP engine (Dart block, so might be a problem with new registration in UK), exhaust (ceramic coated), accusump, ignition system and so on, probably also Getrag 996 box (if the company which will build my new GT2 transaxle will not take the Getrag box in exchange), incl. adapter and (upgraded Porsche) clutch. So if anyone is interested in any of these parts and it fits to the build schedule, pls. let me know. Car is in full operation, so quality of parts can be checked. Engine is now after re-build, new cam, lifters bearings, gaskets. Everything else was checked and is ok, engine is running strong (just having the usual problems of heavily tuned SBC Gen1 engines, that´s why I am converting to modern LS7).

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter,

I'd be interested in the airbox. I need to figure out alternative ducting though, because although I have the Reverie scoops, they feed air to the aircon and oil cooler rads - so I can't get at the inlets.

Stig,

why don't you replace the normal oil cooler with a heat exchanger, that will free up the left hand intake duct completely...

Good point! Will have a look at that.

If you do decide to fit a heat exhchanger, and you have to adjust the height of the swirl pot like I did, you'll have to move the expansion pot up and down to match to prevent it losing water from the sysytem...

Hi Stig,

would be great if you could use the airbox, it is such I nice piece and I would hate to have it lying around in the garage and eventually throwing it out...

Now concerning your problems with the aircon and oil cooler - went through exactly the same that time, but found solutions. And they work very well from the beginning, to my surprise and relief, I have to say.

Here the solution for the A/C cooler:

We had to find a smaller, yet same effective cooler - I finally found one, it is from a Porsche 911. Had to do some custom weld and lot of testing to find the right amount of coolant filling (now I think 450g). But now the A/C works quite well, on the original set-up the A/C tended to cool only itself in hot weather and during a longer ride.

Here the solution for the oil cooler:

The air duct is not installed but I think you can see how it works. Taking away the oil cooler and replacing by a heat exchanger, created a lot of free space - we installed there parts of the fuel system. And the heat exchanger works extremely efficient, I am rather thinking now about installing an oil thermostat to raise temps a bit.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Peter

Thanks Peter.

Given that the Can-Am has only just hit the road, I'm reluctant to start modifying it too much unless I really need to. I'm pretty sure I can take a feed from the oil cooler side, but only feed one side of the airbox which is probably fine anyway.

Anyhow, keep me posted when it comes time to sell

What GT2 box are you going to fit. If it is from a 996 X50 or GT2 be aware that yhese boxes have problems. Just had mine fully rebuilt with new internals due to jumping out of second gear (£6K). Others have had a simliar problem!

Was for the porsche under warranty! God knows the replacement price as these boxes are ungraded over the standard 996 turbo box!
I have recently upgraded the my G50 with fully working LSD and taller gearing for around £1100! There is a very good supplier in Holland that has these in stock.

Guy, Was the upgrade price for having your G50 modified or a p/x price? I would be interested in hearing more as having longer gears would make a great difference in my book.

Well all went well yesterday, no rain but no sun.
The Hill room is still full of lovely carbon fibre bits and their a few cars still outside.
I did not get a chance to chat with Riverie, due to other commitments yesterday/last night. But I’ll go and visit him soon about the ducts.

Peter (ultimacz) what size, make and model of heat exchanger are you using?
Is it a Laminova?
What size oil pipes are you using, –10?
Did you have to weld any mounting brackets for it.
Also, what year Porsche 911 did the air con cooler rad come from?
“Had to do some custom weld and lot of testing to find the right amount of coolant filling”
Would you be willing to share the details of what you did.

I’m going for a LS1-2-6-7 engine in mine (depending what I can find)
The more air I can get into the car the better I say.

Hi Peter,

I attach a photo of the heat exchanger. Sorry, dont know the part number, this was done by the workshop, I am just the (poor) guy who has to pay for all that stuff...

Now the heat exchanger is a MOCAL. From what I remember there was anyway only a very small choice, I think only 2 models. I think, we went for the smaller one. Can measure length, if you need. You see on the photo also the mounting brackets, we did that locally, not much of a problem. Size of the oil pipes I dont know, but think it is same size as go also to the Accusump.

The air con cooler: same issue, I was just told it is from a 911, can only guess it is from a 996, but dont know. If you really need to know, I could search the pile of invoices, maybe there was a part number somewhere. Got this part in Austria, by the way, when everybody ("specialists" told me for weeks that there would be no solution available, so during a business trip I stopped at a well reputated shop in Vienna and made them look through their catalogues for 2 hours until they found something which fits. So you see, never give up! And of course I can share the details, as much as I know. The welding was also done in Austria, from what I remember they had to cut off the Porsche connectors (fittings) and weld on std. ones, with a 90deg. angle. They would not give me any guarantee that it will work and be tight, because welding this material seems to be difficult. But it worked and no problems since. Could try to make more detailed photos if you really need. Concerning filling: Took quite some time until we found out why the aircon was working badly after some time of operation and there were also very strange and loud noises, thought initially some problem with the engine... In the end it was found that the A/C system was just over-filled...

Hi bluesatin,

sorry to hear of your problems. This is not good news, also for me. So far I have been told that the GT2 or GT3 boxes are very robust and superior quality. The trans builder here in Germany also recommended the GT2 box for my LS7 project, and he was very surprised that my std. Getrag 996 did not fall apart during the 15.000 km I did with my current SBC, which is approx. 600HP and huge torque, and that is much more than the Getrag is made for.

From what I know my GT2 would be from a 996 (what is X50?) because I must have the cable-shift. I am considering buying now a re-build GT2 box, maybe also re-geared, at least the 6th gear, if possible also the 1st gear, but this would need welding I am told. I am also told they always have LSD which would be great. But this is already all information I have got. Just "hope" that you had bad luck but with your box and that my box would work fine, but your comment indicates somehow that there is a more general design problem with the GT2 boxes? My car will be used mostly on road, only rarely on track and there it will not be driven to the max.

If not GT2, then I really dont know what else. Definitely need a stronger box than the current Getrag 996, this is no option. Also need cable-shift, and it has to fit into the Ultima, so the main dimensions (mainly related to the drive shaft position) need to be very close to the current Getrag. I am also told the GT2 is bigger than a G50, so we are trying to get now some measurements for the GT2 box to check against our chassis.

If anybody has any drawings with dimensions on the GT2, please please let me have them!! We are also interested in photos and dimensions of G50´s from all sides, so that we can compare against GT2, based on the assumption that G50 boxes normally fit into the Ultima without problems. The German trans builder told me already that it is no problem to turn the GT2 box upside/down, as needed for the Ultima, but it needs some "balancing tank", I think he meant the "thing" which I have already now installed for my Getrag, besides the breather catch tank. And we would have to watch very carefully the oil level, this is most critical. Any comments appreciated!

thanks,

Peter

If you are able to measure it that would be very handy.
I see that the water runs though the exchanger, so does this system share the heat between the water and the oil?
If that is the case, if the oil temp rises the water does too.
How does this cool it?

Yours Confused
