Air-con recharge - anything special?

Air con's stopped working and in Dorset all week so going to have to find a local air-con general servicing place. Anything special I have to tell them (amount of refrigerant???)

Should be straight forward to recharge if that's the fault, refrigerant is R134a not sure on quantity but good A/C engineer should be able to top up without knowing.
Only problem is assuming you have lost refrigerant is where ? modern A/C systems aren't as prone to leaks so maybe you have differant fault.

Has it stopped working all together or is it just not as good as it was?

If it has stopped all together you might find it's the clutch sticking - mind did this - then cured it'self....

It's not the clutch as there isn't a clunk, and it lost all it's refrigerant last year, so I assume it has a small leak?

Surely the clutch should clunk

I would think that too - mone stopped cluncking and stopped working (it was a hot day and heavey traffic) and then after cooling a bit started cluncking again and therefore working!

Thinking about it the system might go into shut down mode if no gas to save any damage! Hence no clunk.

Thanks for all the help. Stuck one of those Halfords recharge thingyies on and it's now working but not as good as it was so that'll do until I get back to the smoke.

And yes, I am on holiday in my fine new thatched cottage. Dorset roads are stunning, from here to Dorchester there is two "roman" roads where at least 1.2 on the richtor scale have been found without any problems

I am not Professor Joust but I think if you lift the front clam you'll find it in the left side bolted there somewhere.

I just had mine fully serviced at the service by an independant air con chap.

£150 all done. No idea if thats good or not though.

The low pressure point is just next to the nearside front wheel. Do NOT touch the high pressure side valve on of the off side next to the windscreen wipers / air box unless you are a professional!

Playing with that can cause serious injury.

thanks both Ouch, 150 nikker sounds OTT. Guys round here charge about 80 for full recharge, leak test and some weird gunk that re seals the internals ( not the oil ).
