Doesn't it amuse you the number of people that have all these cars on order, but when the time comes to part with the 10k deposits then they suddenly no longer want one.
Sooo many people I know, as well as people on here have Turbo's, GT3's, GT3RS's (and the normal Ferrari, etc) all apparently 'on order', however always seem to have some reason not to bother.
"was going to get the 90k RS, but decided that I didn't like the seats so keeping the 6 year old carrera 2"
Does it somehow them feel better for having a letter of intent in, when in 99% of thier cases they are never intending to purchase.
Do these people also have 20 bedroom houses on order, only to cancel & remain in there back to back because the 6th ensuite didn't have a walk in shower ?
Sorry, just a rant. Makes me laugh anyway.

Not really, each to their own I suppose. I was initially rather worried when I first saw the pics of the new turbo, it really wasnt making the impact I wanted. Worried enough to think about dumping the order. The initial feedback from the public wasnt "wow" either, so I was even more worried that it wasnt just me! The first pics just didnt hit the button and I admit I was pretty close to pulling my order. Even now, having seen more pics and that stunning blue at the Expo, Im still not totally convinced of the overall look (its something about the air intakes on the haunches). Then again I also bought a Sagaris after a cpl of test drives, hating the steering, not thinking it was *that* special and basically on a hunch.
Now the pics of the new GT2 on the otherhand, that is screaming Buy Me!

Letter of intent & orders are two different things (about 10k difference when talking about the new Porsches).
Im still missing something here. If somebody has an LOI in and withdraws it whatever reason, why does it bother you? I can think of several valid reasons to withdraw an LOI, I strongly suspect for a lot of ppl the major one would be objections from their other half about the cost of motors. Mine certainly wouldnt countenance me doing anything new "now" as opposed to what Ive done/started in the past before I started a new life with her. The Sagaris and tt were both done before her...and even they are subject to plenty of financial "debates"! I was asked did I want to put an LOI down for a new DBS or Vanquish replacement...and yes Id love to, but I know that to get that past SWMBO come deposit/cough up time, just wouldnt be worth the relationship grief.
Real life just gets in the way sometimes and 95% of us will usually go with keeping our partners/family happy than buying a car.
Personally I find it bizzare that someone would hand over money on a car they have never seen or driven!
I assume that the dealers realise that a percentage of LOIs will never result in a sale, in the same way that a percentage of test drives won't result in a sale.
Each to their own I guess, no matter how strange, wierd or wonderful.

That is called the power of the brand. What surprises me is that even with waiting lists stretching over 2 years you will always be able to find the car you like shortly after they are being launched. Look at the 2 year waiting list for the AMV8. The other day HWM in Walton on Thames had three for sale with less that 300 miles on the clock at list or just below. So why would you want to put down 10.000 pounds for 2 years.

If you order the car new you get to choose the spec. you want. Obviously this is the main reason people will buy these things new. I'd happily put a £10K deposit down on a GT3 (if I could afford one) but I certainly wouldn't bother putting a letter of intent in unless I was serious about buying one.

But thats what I am saying. Half the people who put in these letters of intent actually have no intention of ever puchasing, they just like saying "'I've got a * on order".
Ahh, a question of terminology. I regard LOI's as an the first stage of an order. Whether it goes to the 2nd or 3rd stage is another matter! I sure as
wouldnt put £10k down on a car 2 yrs in advance though, that's a job for an LOI! What's more I asked Porsche 3yrs ago whether they wanted any cash off me then for the tt order and they said explicitly no, just an LOI.What I find really funny is people who use terms like 'SWMBO' for their missus.
WTF!? why exactly must she be obeyed?
From my own perspective, if I wanted to buy a car, and money that I had earned was going to pay for it then I think I would tell her I had decided to buy a car with my money, I hope she likes the colour I have chosen. If she then told me I wasn't allowed to buy it or started making things difficult because she didn't agree with the purchase, she would be reminded exactly who's money it was, who had earnt it and that she isn't left wanting for a roof over her head, clothes, nice shoes and a new dress everytime a special occasion comes round.
This is all unless of course, she has some extremely valid reasons that you hadn't thought of yourself, and in actual fact it would be detrimental to you both to buy it. (you had been a bit hasty / bit of a t
t placing the order in the 1st place)
It's becomming more and more common I notice that people write - my missus won't let me, or SWMBO says no.
Grow a spine for Christ sake guys.

Maybe I'm unusual. My wife would have shot me if I hadn't put a deposit down on my current car - AMV8 - and can't wait for the new one GT3 to arrive in Sept. Keeps making sure I'm on the list for all sorts of other future exotica too. Mind you I did catch her checking my life ins. the other day. Seriously these cars are a major part of our lives and it seems odd if you've ended up with a partner who doesn't either share or at least understand the passion.

Because a car is only a car and I happen to love my fiance far more than any car. More to the pt, I value peace and quiet more than any car! Mostly because its very bloody rarely I get any sodding peace and quiet!

Yes you are absolutely right, a car is only a car, but from reading exactly what you have written
"I love my fiance more than any car."
Are you saying that her annoyance at you buying the car would be so great that it would prevent her from being able to marry you as a result? Or to put it another way, it's a choice between her and the car?
I love my wife too, but I'm pretty damn certain she wouldn't consider divorcing me if I spent my own money on a new motor.
I don't mean to be offensive - just seems very strange.
