After mucho agonising I spurned a new C2s for a cayman.
Hoping i made the right move, but with a baby on the way, and an RS4 avant to pay for in November I have saved the £20k and plumped for a midnight blue cayman with sport designs and blue (full) leather!
Looking forward to it, but a shame IMO that some (expensive) options need to be ticked and paid for, even though they will never be used (sat nav) which bumped the price from £44k up to £52.5k.
Now i need to sell the Lotus!!

Hope you love the car, but if you're not going to use an option why have it? It will add virtually nothing to it's reale value anyway... IMHO

Absolutely. You've now got a 52.5 grand Boxster Coupe (lovely though it surely is). I'd be severely inclined if going for a Cayman, to keep it under the 50k mark. At anything above 50k, I'd be looking at ex-demo 997s. But that's just me, perhaps. I know the Cayman is a great car, but on the Porsche totem pole, I don't think it's great value and wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to find out that it's taken over from the Cayenne as Porcshe biggest per-unit-return money spinner.

He's right even the dealer who took me out on a drive told me that if you don't need SatNav don't get it as it doesn't make much difference to resale. The options that are must haves are Met' paint, leather, wheels and uprated stereo apparently. PASM is useful too with the bigger wheels. Brings it in at about 47-48k
Incidentally I've ordered an RS4 saloon, later delivery than yours. I'd love to have the option of having that and the CaymanS

Don't worry about the people saying it's merely a Coupe Boxster, it's an amazing car, very different to a Boxster.
However, I don't think that the PCM/Sat Nav was wise. I opted not to have it on mine and after spending 3 weeks with a car with it on, I'm sure this is a sound decision. Also I found that I used a windscreen mounted TomTom for navigation as it was better - Doh!

Don't worry about the people saying it's merely a Coupe Boxster, it's an amazing car, very different to a Boxster.

I have recently ordered a Cayman S. I was also told Sat/Nav wasn't essential for resale.
I have kept the total price below 50k. Spec includes met paint, leather interior, sports seats, PASM, 19" wheels, Xenon lights, ICE upgrade(but not to BOSE) and a few other little things.
I was offered Oct, Nov or next Apr build slots. I opted for next Apr. the reason for that is I don't want to take delivery of a car like this in the middle of winter in NE Scotland. The car would just stay in the garage until the weather got better.
Last week the OPC in Aberdeen loaned me their demonstrator for the day. So on Wednesday I spent the day driving round my favourite roads here in the NE. This was the route - A93 to Dinnet - A97 to Donside - A944 to Colnabaichin - A939 to Ballater - B976 to Feughside - B974 over Cairn O'Mount - A90 back to Aberdeen.
It is a sensational car to drive on these empty hill roads. The handling is so neutral and the car is so planted, whatever the road conditions. And the amount of grip available has to be experienced to be believed. I don't regret placing an order. All I have to do is wait until next year.
And whatever anyone says, it is plenty quick enough. And it sounds pretty good when pressing on.

I got bose and pasm too, which i really liked, as there are some good twisties near me and i found an instant difference to the handling and feel, and I come from a Lotus background...

p.s. Pikey - why would he worry about people calling it merely a Boxster Coupe as if this is a bad thing? I don't mean by simply calling it one but by definition you think the Cayman S is far superior to a Boxster S? In reality these cars are very similar, but for the obvious differences. I wouldn't argue with you that they feel different though.

I had dilemmas for ages about which of the two cars mentioned I should go for. Decided on the RS4 in part because of the chance of having kids but I went to the MotorExpo last week and fell in love with the Cayman all over again. I'll give it until after the summer before I finally decide though.
If someone wants to convince me porsche wise by taking me for a proper drive in one though I won't complain.

From today's Autocar: "Porsche's 911 Turbo is by far its most profitable current model. The firm makes as much money from one Turbo as it does from four ordinary 911s or seven Cayennes."
Which also implies that a regular 911 earns more than a Cayenne.

The PASM is superb - particularly if the lady who normally frequents the passenger seats doesn't like harsh... but you do

checked with a guy who works in the building opposite you. He gets the sales figures sent to him fairly regularly. Seems they are over sales target for this year by 3000 cars. which for Porsche is Phenomenal.
It also meant I have to apologise for any previous posts about how badly it was selling.

See where you're coming from, but that's not what I mean. Allow me to elaborate.
I find that people have a negative attitude to it - implying that one (ie. me?!
) have been naive/silly/stupid to buy into Porsches sales blurb and purchase a more expensive version of what should be a cheaper car. But, once Bruce gets his car he will will not give two hoots about such comments (particularly if he's fortunate enough to have a new Boxster on a week's loan for a decent comparison). That's why I made the comment - friendly reassuance!
Whilst we're here though, I think that people who will buy a Boxster wouldn't buy a Cayman due to the convertible element. I think that people who aren't bothered for a convertible will weigh up between the 997 and the Cayman and perhaps there are those, like me, who won't appreciate the superior elements of the 997 and feel the Cayman is more than enough.
Whether the Boxster is better or worse than the Cayman I wouldn't comment. I haven't taken time to think of it nor would I want to get into the argument because I don't really care.
Personally I had a convertible for 3 years in my S2000 and think that's so good I wouldn't change it for a Boxster. If they didn't do the Cayman though I'm not sure what I would be driving now - wouldn't be a 997 though (due to cost). Hope that answers it - I'm not a snob, honest!!

hmmm.. odd then that I ordered a Cayman S in late April, with delivery now predicted in 2-4 weeks time.
Though I guess there is the factor shut down in August to consider.
I was looking at a 911 as well, and for the 51K my cayman is costing you can't get a 997 from an OPC. They are still 60K+
