C4S Test Drive

Well the Missus and I would like to get a 997S and so our friendly OPC obliged us with a C4S for 3 days. We had an absolute hoot ands whizzed down to the west country for a long test.
Anyhow, really loved it overall. At first thought it felt slow, but I guess all cars need 'more power'!
But by day 2 thought, nope this is quite fast enough!
On the downside, the seats gave me back trouble, causing a me grief getting out of bed the next day (I'm 33 yrs old!), thought this was going to spell the end for the 911 dream, but by day 3 I was 'almost' comfortable in the car. Does anyone else find the satndard seats arch your lower back too much?? (seats were adjustable.)The thing tramlines like crazy on roads, must be those wide bits of rubber on the back, the C2s I'm sure will be better. Coupled with this I found the tyre roar a bit too intrusive on rough surfaces. Maybe the narrower rubber on the C2 will reduce this further? We also thought the Bose stereo to be utter junk, way to basey, no end of adjustment could make it sound good, so we knocked that off the options list and decided the sound of the Sports zorst would be far more appealing. Anyone else find the £800 option a total waste? The satnav was fine, but is very ancient technology, might ditch this as well unless someone can talk me out of it?? The short shift we really loved, but thought the chrono pack would not get much use.
Other than that I think we are sold, was surprised at how many people still admired the car on the road still after 2 years. Only bummer was in between us speccing one out and having the test drive (2 weeks), Porka introduded the new pricing, so it will cost us an extra £2k!
Still cannot decide on the colour thou, at the moment its boring Seal Grey (or whatever they call it now) or Guards Red.....................................

Watch the seats.... A friend bought a brand new Boxster and had to sell it after a couple of months as he just couldn't get rid of backache however much he adjusted the seats!!! Loved the car but it was too painful to drive. I would satisfy yourself that you can actually get comfortable before committing.

Far better than the usual suspects of Greys/Silvers/Blacks and Dark Blues,
As great as they all look in all the usual colours be brave different.
Dealer said not to go for white unless it was a GT3, along with a move to Southern Claifornia!!

First car, I've ever had trouble with from the outset, but new seats are firm and will hopefully give after 12moinths or so. Failing that it looks like the missus will have the thing to herself!

The main problem I had with my sports seats was the shoulder bolsters. If you're any wider than normal, be careful they don't push your arms in too much.

i would normally agree with you - only reason i suggest it is that i saw a couple 'round the back' at reading opc a short time ago with the gt3 bodykit and it really did look awesome... bit of a pretender to the throne obviously but awesome none the less...
I have had my C4S three weeks Friday & im addicted to it. Its my first Porsche - ever, ive never even driven any earlier models, bit peeved that I never gave them a chance. In my book it scores 10/10 in all areas but its the handling that blows me away. Im very happy with the Bose system, along with the Sports Chrono, it was a must have option. I guess the sound isnt as rich as a British Audio home solution, a bit more clinical, similar to Adam studio speakers, but thats the beast of German Audio design. Once set up though, as a dance music fan, I am very pleased. Get that bass up to +9 & your right leg vibrates as the bass drivers kick out of the speaker in the doors, the whole car vibrates & im in Ibiza..
I can see that most people maybe wouldn’t like or require this, but if your into the dance scene, you'll be needing the Bose. I did find though that the speakers needed to be worn in like home speakers. The car was new & so they needed to be run in, now with almost 3 weeks/1000 miles, there starting to sound really sweet.
I agree the normal seats could be better. Im to impatient to order cars & so my off the peg solution didn’t have adaptive, if I was a patient man, I would order up some adaptive seats - as long as they didn’t disrupt the Bass coming through those 13 speakers though ah..
I didnt care what colour it was, I think they look sweet in all the colours & when your steaming around those corners at Pirbright Bends – who cares...

When I first got mine in March (996 C4S) I thought I had made an error since the seats caused me real back pain for about the first 2 weeks. I was starting to look at replacment seats and even considering a swap back to a M3. However as quick as it started it just vanished. Don't know if the seat got used to me, visa versa or a bit of both. The odd thing is that if I drive our other car (320td - yawn) on a long journey and then get into the Porsche the pain comes back very slightly for an hour or so. BTW I am 31.

can you explain why? just don't understand why people bother with this and the clock looks naff, the thorttle sensitivity was a pain in traffic and not esp. noticeable anywhere else, and if you want PSM retardation turn it off
