Has Anyone Ever....
Discussion
Whilst looking thru these mighty fine forums, at all the mods availavle electrics wise... coupled with the fact that for the first time ever, I turned the key, and ... NOTHING.... No its not alarm, no its not dead battery... its jsut the barell being silly,.. few jiggles and it fires over...
I wonder...
Given we can open our boots with the Door Button, override the fans, change the fan on temps and the like..
has anyone ever installed a Push Start Button in the trev?
The ideal place would be a replacement for the rear fogs... (with them either being moved to a toggle switch elsewhere, or acting as a multi function switch, which, when engine is running, or lights are on, act as fog lights, but otherwise act as a push starter...
Any thoughts from the More Electrically inclined of you out there?

Should be easy enough to do.
The ignition switch is basically two switches and three wires. One wire is always live (+12v), this wire connects (and stays connected) to the ignition circuit to power everything (accesories and ignition ECU etc) when the key is turned to it's 1st position. Then another wire which momentarily connects to the live to power the starter motor circuit as long as you hold the key in it's start position (or hold a start button down)
A button could be installed to replace the starter postion of the barrel (easy enough) but you would still have to turn the key to the 1st position to power everything else. Unless a latching button was put in too, but then you lose the security of needing a key to start the car (mind you, theres still the immobiliser)
I don't know alot about TVR's, but the key barrel ignition switch is the same in all cars, and I do know my electrics!! Hope this makes sense!!

Interesting idea. The Cerbera has this function, so I wonder what could be used from the Cerbera starting mechanism.
I don't own a Cerbera so I'm not sure how the equivilent of 'position I' works, possibly activated once the cars is disarmed.
I love the idea of the button start (had one in my old mini, but this was keeping the standard ignition key and an extra button).

You could quite easily do a push button start only. Thats to say you would put the key in and turn the ignition on, but you press the button to start. The problem would be maybe having to remove the dash to remove switch and fit new "posh" one. Or a switch on the steering binnacle would be much easier but not so "flash".
Cerbera has two buttons - a red and a black one (and no key.
)
Pressing the black one once (both are momentary action) turns the ignition on, pressing again (and holding for about two seconds) fires the starter. The red button turns everything off when pressed.
The delay on the starter button is worth thinking about as it prevents the starter motor from engaging if the button is accidently pressed whilst the engine is running.
