In addition to all the other tips posted thus far I thought I'd just add the following having just received my campsite ticket.

Don't stick these to your window using the gum strips provided, they're always a bugger to remove afterwards. Instead just secure in place with a bit of blu-tac. Using more if you're driving a rag top.

The other tip which has already been mentioned is to carry back up Euros for petrol as some stations don't accept UK credit cards. Self service stations after hours are also a no, no for us Brits.

On most of the campsites security will stop you on the gate and make you peel the strips off and stick the pass on properly. I've never tried blu-tak but mainly they are pretty insistent on the passes being permanently stuck to avoid one pass being used on multiple cars.

A better idea is to take the strips off and then use scotch tape or to cover the pass in sticky back plastic (I'd avoid heat laminating a few years ago the GP passes were designed to self destruct in heat allegedly!). The point is that from the outside it needs to look like it is permanently attached!

I can vouch for the tenacity of the gum on the camping tickets.

My 2005 Beasejour ticket is still attached to my windscreen......

or just remove a very small part of the sticky strip (lets say 1cm in each corner). Limits the damage.

Also worth trying to stick it to something else first (like your finger) to remove a bit of its ferocious stickyness..

The lid will only be used if it's heavy rain on the Belgium/France stretch (for visibility )

Yep, learned to keep a small roll of masking tape in glovebox for campticket, as ticket glue is the pits... a friend still has residue on his windscreen from last year!

Can also confirm that self service late night stations can leave you stranded, as it seems the 'chip & pin ' is currently only for french bank/credit systems and did not work for any of our cards.

If it wasn't for a friendly female cab driver using her card and us refunding her, 4 blokes would have had to spend the night crammed in a golf....not good !

Mine is still on too. Might take it off as we pull into BSJ again, or just add the 2006 next to it.

You can (try and) get away with something temporary to fix the sticker in a tin-top, but if your in a convertable I'd strongly suggest using the glue they come with - we had someone pintch the hazard warning switch from one of out cars while it was parked in the Careforre car park last year, so what's stopping them taking your camping pass? And if it does get pintched when you go crying they will go looking for the glue marks and probably tell you to chuck it.

As for getting the glue off (glass) - easy. One bottle of tar spot remover - apply, leave to soak, remove with the assistance of a Stanley knife blade.

Easy - in fact, must remember to remove my 2005 sticker. Could try going 2-up, but then I'd be able to see nothing out the left of my windscreen ^_^

We did this last year and on MB we were made to take off all of the paper and stick the whole sticker on.

Maybe it depends on the campsite.........

I can second //J17 on this, stanley knife blade will take it off the screen without too much trouble, razor blade is even better as they flex to match the profile of the glass.

All you need to worry about then is how to stop the bleeding!

Top tip time...

Get hold of something thin and clear - I always use the clear plastic from one of those old photo albums - you know the ones where you put the pictures under clear plastic.

Stick your camping pass to that then cut round it neatly - you may want to get an adult to help you with the scissors (OK bit too Blue Petery!).

Then stick to inside of windscreen (I'm ignoring the 'got no windscreen' subthread here) with a bit of sellotape. Looks totally legit so attracts no attention.

Its what the locals do!
