Am I ahead of the game or behind it?

Was trying to work out if I should get a 1.4 or a 2 and then this one popped up.

Could make the 70-200 f2.8 a good choice afterall.

It would then be a 120-340 f 4.2 (ish)

Not bad huh ?

Just spotted this. Looks interesting, especially as you mention, with a 70-200 f2.8

Stops my lustful thoughts for the 80-400 VR, and now I want this and a 70-200...

must stop looking at expensive bits of glass!!

Been out a little while now, I think, but not as a "Mark II"??? I hadn't noticed that this had previously been compatable with AF-I lenses as well as AF-S and specific mention of supporting VR function

I've often wondered... Does the 1.7x converter actually become a 2.55x converter because of the crop factor?

eg does it make a 80-400 into a 204-1020 or into a 306-1530?

Durr.... my bwain hurts.

I have used the Nikon 1.7 converter for about a year now. Use it with the 70-200 in circumstances when the 200-400 is not feasible, quality I would say is good. The decider must be clients and have not received adverse comment
Steve
PS Haven't used the 1.4 since getting the 1.7

Dobbo, You simply times 70 by 1.7which is 120.

200 x 1.7 =340

so its a 120-340mm with the 1.7x converter on but thats a 35mm film equivalent of 180 - 510mm

So the 70-200 and 1.7x gives you a 105 - 510mm f2.8 - 4 range (in 35mm terms) Pretty good I say.

Now where did I leave my wallet?
