do you want to copy them to another column say to b1, b5, b9?

if so:

in b1 enter formula =a1

then with the mouse highlight cells b1 to b4 (just highight, not drag the formula, you want b2, b3, b4 to be bkank).

then with those cells highlighted double left click on the cross at the bottom right corner of cell b4

this will autofill all of column b with forumalas for all values in column a in every 5the cell.

If the cells in between are not blank...click on a1, then, holding down the ctl key, click on a5, a10, etc. Now go to b1 and paste.

Ctl-clicking allows you to select non-contiguous cells.

TBH I can't think of an easy solution to this one. You may be able to use the goto command and paste in a list of cell references - or name the pattern of cells you need to select and use the goto command to select them. Other than that it would be macro time.

I want to copy A1,A5,A9... to B1,B2,B3...

There's other data inbetween, the cells aren't blank.

There's over 1000 rows too, so can't do it manually

You data is in A1, A2, A3 . . A1000
Key 1 into cell B1, 2 into B2, 3 into B3 and 4 into B4.
Then key =B1 into cell B5 and copy down to the end of your data set.
Next Key 1 into C1 and =C1+1 into C2. Again, copy the formula in C2 down column C to the end of your data.

Select cols B and C and COpy > Paste as vaules
Finally selected cols A to C and click Data > Sort. You want to sort by Col B and them by Col C.

Hope this helps. It actually takes less time to do than read these instructions!

Edit to Add : Funky Gibbons is the best solution. You'll just have to sort. However, if you want to keep in the order then it won't work.
