Any ideas on what to do next. My car keeps stalling for no apparent reason.

I have swapped the airflow meter, stepper motor and throttle potentiometer with a car that doesn't stall and it made no difference. I have replaced the coolent temp sensor that goes to the ECU and the fuel pump relay as well as the throttle potetiometer relay and this seemed to sort it as it would run from cold all the way to hot without stalling. But if i have driven it and pull up to lights etc it starts to "hunt" and eventually dies.................any help would be appreciated.

P.S taking the breather pipe off seems to help the tickover but it still stalls eventually (none of the pipes are blocked)

Help

If it is dying when you pull up it could be as simple as a battery on it's way out...

Is it coming due for a service? Maybe no single major fault, just lots of small problems adding up to a poor idle.

I hire fault code readers for £10 per week.

Email me if you want to see if the ECU is reporting a fault.

Sounds like an air leak somewhere after the airflow meter, spray some lighter gas or brake cleaner around all the joints with the engine running if it revs up you've found your leak

That sounds like a good idea. I shall give it a go

Adam, I would be interested to know how you get on with this, I too have replaced all the parts you mentioned but still get an occasional cut out/stall. I was thinking towards ECU myself.

For me, it seemed that the ECU contacts were dirty/corroded. A good clean later and the idle was behaving itself again.

Stick a battery charger on it for an hour and see if it still stalls, how often is the car used ?

faulty lambda probes even 1 of 2 can create hunting & intermitant cutting out not always obvious, lazy switching voltage, can be erratic, normally followed by strong egg smell from exhausts if there sending ECU rich. when its playing up,just a thought, give it a go,good luck.just check the obvious things first as others suggested.

Will check ECU connections, seems to covered in bubble wrap and sitting sideways on the floor instead of on top of the battery as all my other have, so could have got wet.

Did think of Lamda sensors although some mechanics I asked pointed me away from this, but could be worth a try.

TVR Power at coventry suggested new cap and leads.......

Here we go again!
