On the way to work today some fool in a logoed white van pulled onto the roundabout straight in front of me without looking, presumably because he was having a heated discussion on the phone. Fortunately there was plenty of space and I was already slowing cos he didn't look like he was paying attention. However we all stopped in traffic (him still on the phone, ignoring my evil stare) a little further on and I took the opportunity to write down his reg and the company he works for...

So do I

a)Call his work and let them know they need to provide handsets for their drivers.
b)Call the BiB with the details
c)Do both a) and b)
d)Do nothing

I'd certainly go for a). It may be that the company already provide headsets and he simply wasn't using it. Is it a large/well known firm who are likely to have a lot of vehicles on the road? Transport managers (in my experience) tend to take a dim view of poor driving standards, especially in liveried vehicles.....

a) is the only likely scenario where anything will happen.

When I ran one of the largest car/van fleets in the country, any complaints from members of the public about driving (or other behaviour) were extremely well followed up on.

Remember, this people are representing their company in their logoed clothes and vehicles

Unless of course it's a one man van show

That would be almost as satisfying tbh.

Not necessarily, because my headset permits voice dialling, I don't have to hold the phone (it's usually in my pocket). This is legal.

I did this once and got a mouthful of abuse.
In most companies I've worked for, anybody in authority is a long way away from contact with the public or from seeing the mail.

Damn. I didn't take enough details down and I can't find their number. Hey ho.

A white van once did a ludicrous manouvere in front of me pulling off a roundabout almost hitting my lovely new Lotus. So, with the smirk on his face I rang the company and told them. Got put through to the boss who was most apologetic (I was not angry at all, very sincere infact) and thanked me for my call.

I did it once, rung the number on the side of the van, it got transfered and then I watched the muppet in the van pick his phone up again! now that was hilarious telling him he was a tw4t.

I was once driving down the M1 in my wife's car on holiday with my young son. A Fiesta being driven disgracefully tailgated me at just over 80 in the outside lane, despite the fact that there was traffic in front of me, flashed his lights and was basically dangerous and aggressive. Unfortunately for him the Fiesta was one of my company pool cars - he just hadn't recognised my wife's car. There was a serious disciplinary matter the following Monday, needless to say, and he was no longer allowed to drive any company vehicles ever again. He left shortly afterwards.

Sweet.

But very mean to give employees Fiestas for motorway journeys.

I was nearly wiped out by a large lorry from the local quarry yesterday as the driver was on the phone, fortunately it was me driving at the time of his stupidity and i was able to avoid an accident.

I am approaching a T - junction that is not very well designed to turn right. Normally turning right means moving to the right edge of the lane, however i have noticed some drivers of larger vehicles struggle to make the left turn in from the right if they have come from another T-junction slightly staggered to the right. So I always approach the juntion from as far left as i can postion the car and move to a more central position for the junction.
Due to my positioning yesterday i was able to spot the lorry turning and quickly sussed out that the driver wasn't going to struggle to stay in his lane but that he wasn't even trying to so i stopped bout 30yds short. All wheels on my side of the road at approx 15mph, driver holding phone to ear and laughing away at his conversation, don't think he saw me at all.

Unfortunately the lorry was so filthy I have no idea who the operator was or i would have called to put a complaint in.
I don't think there would be much of my wee car left after being hit by one of those things.

Driver probably still wouldn't have noticed.

Phone the company. What company was it?

You can try plod. Hint, to get Plod interested, advise them you think the driver was driving at 35mph when it was in fact a 30 limit. YOu need not tell them he was driving dangerously, with undue care and attention, he nearly hit you etc.. as that won't matter.. Just clarify the speeding bit, and a helicopter and armed response unit will soon track him down.

Argent something or other to do with automotive equipment supplies. I can't find anything in the phonebook, yellow pages or google.

Now you mean when it say "How's my driving ... dial whatever" - it go to the driver?

I could have a lot of fun in that case - only it would mean they pick up phone. Never mind.. can always tell them my passenger has photo evidence.. But nein - would simply tell them where to place - most carefully - in dark place which rearly see sun

Agree wth streaky.

I suggest that to be totally squeaky streak free clean the phone needs to be mounted in some sort of holder to avoid any accusation.

On a tangential issue, anyone noticing an increase in people texting while driving? wtf are these people on?

It amuses me when they flatly deny it. Personally I would like to confiscate the phone and drive over it. Sometimes the ways of French plod are to be appreciated.
