I am toying with the idea of having a Clifford alarm fitted as the existing alarm can sometimes be tempermental.
I have had clifford alarms before and find them to work fine, but now we are talking about fitting them to a TVR, i was also playing with the idea of haveing the itelli start fitted so i can warm the car up from the comfort of my chair lol.
Does anyone know if this would be or cause any problem and how would the existing immoboliser work etc, any comments greatfully received.

Thanks

would think remote start is nightmare eg
you need to give it a little bit of loud pedal to help with starting
you need to leave in gear on hills.

You're better to jump straight in a drive your car rather than warm it up on the drive / in the garage for 10 mins. Low revs and cold oil are bad for cams. If you have problems with the standard alarm/immobiliser system, talk to Carl Baker (www.tvruk.tv) and get them sorted out. I'd say apart from replacing the rubbish standard fobs, there's not really much that needs doing.

Yep, speak to Carl
My alarms performed perfectly and is actually a pretty good system. Carl can supply you with different fobs with a much better range also.
IMO Remote start, you are just asking for trouble, like when you launch it through the garage wall when its been left in gear.

Remote starts are a bit more techinical than that they need to be in neutral for them to work but the main problem would be giving it some loud when it starts, possibly wire in a solenoid to the throttle linkage to give it just enough to start, other avantages would be Thatcham approval and there are 'spare' buttons on the clifford for remote door opening as an example or remote headlight flash so you can find your car in a carpark (which is obviously a cerb only car park)

When i had my Clifford 500 on my previous car, the Thatcham certificate stated that if you had the remote start Module, you lost the Thatcham Approval Cat 1 status because you could then start the car without using the Key.
just some random info i remembered.

Not sure how that info if still accurate (4 years ago) relates to a Cerb with a push button start..
is the Meta alarm Thatcham approved?

WORD OF WARNING: A customer of mine had a remote start alarm fitted to his Honda Prelude,it was stolen from a car park (towed by spec according to witness),
The car was later found damaged and had damaged another two cars while being towed,
Insurance refused to pay out because they argued about remote start and won????!!!!
Resulting in my customer being sued by two car owners and the council because they had ticketed the car whilst it was waiting for recovery.
It cost him about £7,000 eventually,
I dont know if its true but the young lad who works for me says that they are illegal in u.k.? anybody know?

Although i have not heard it being illegal, the system i am looking at will shut the car down and imobolise it it if the car is not entered using the key fob, also if windows broken or any switch pedal it touched with out the car being dissarmed properly. It will not start if i gear and will only attempt to start it twice so not flat battery due to constantly trying to start it.

My clifford 500 was a fantastic alarm no doubt about it, probably best was the blackjax anti hijack bit, if a door had been opened and sometime later when the revs crept over 2k, the anti hijack would bleep-- if you dont punch the code in the dash, it would kill the engine and set the alarm off, you couldnt even silence it with the fob.

fantastic anti hijack technology, pain in the ass if you are picking/dropping people off, as every time a door opens it resets the antihijack...

would i have one in my Cerb now-- no, probably because the Cerb isnt a car that people break into, more often than not they dont have a clue how to get into them and then there is the push button start.immobalizer routine.
i also keep my Cerb in the garage and as its a 2nd car, i dont tend to leave it anywhere anyway.
plus it might be worth considering the Cerb is a classic car virtually now-- and most people feel supercars/classics shouldnt be changed in anyway from the manufacturers specifications.
maybe its just me being a stick in the mud...who knows..

As mentioned earlier, you should give Carl a bell, he did a fantastic job helping me sort my meta out when i put my only fob in the washing machine...hehehhe
