Been looking at Pirelli Corsa's and Michelin Pilot Cups for my Mk II GT3.
Car is used mainly on the road. Trackdays a few times a year.
Some questions...
What's the collective wisdom on these? Who's tried both? Which is best?
With the Corsa's do you go with Asimmetrico's all round or Direzionale up front?
Generally how will they compare to the Pilot Sport 2 N2's I've got fitted at present?

Corsa Directional/Symmetrico are the OEM fitment on the RS. They aren't a full on trackday tyre like the Michellin cups, but are more sticky than normal road tyres. The more track orientated, the worse they are in standing water, and obviously the track tyres wear more quickly.
There are also corsa motorsports which are more on a parr with the michellins.
Given you don't go on track much, not sure why you'd want full 'R' tyres - especially if you use the car in winter etc. The OEM RS directional/symmetrice combination would be as specialised as I'd be inclined to go. They last pretty well on track, but don't have the ulimate grip of the R's.
p.s. all these tyres have more rigid sidewalls than optimised road tyres, so ride may be less smooth.
i currently run corsas and although they grip like a bad habit in the dry, they are positivley murderous in the wet: its like driving a drunk snake.
plus, ive done 4k on mine and the rears are now nearing the wear limit. and its rained for most of those miles, so its hardly been hard use.
with this in mind, im now thinking of switching them out for the tyres that came with the original gt3 wheels (p zero neros i think).

So sounds like the answer might be to buy a spare set a wheels and fit full on R tyres. Swap them over for track days.
Alternatively go with the regular Corsa's as a compromise.
OK now that's sorted all I need is carbon fibre backed leather Recaro's, a roll cage, harnesses and some driving talent.

A few have have been experimenting with them. They are R tyres, and similar to the Michellen cups/corsa mototsports etc. Cheaper though.
Tif has been running the 888's on his MK1 and is mightily impressed with them. Grip levels seem well up there with the Cups and tyre wear seems good as well. What's more the tread depth is about twice that of a Cup and prices about £400 a set less. It's starting to look like a no-brainer. Perhaps now Pirelli and Michelin will be forced to drop their prices?? Who knows.
On the question of tyres for the road, I can confirm from experience that Cup will kill you if you hit standing water. I did so at Bedford going straight last weekend and got thrown into an instant 360 * 3 spin. I hate to think what would have happened if that had been on the Queens Highway.

At Spa this week I had a look at the different tyres on offer from Silverline. I fitted the full on Corsa track tyre, but the Corsa System tyre looks perfect for what you want. I am told it has the same compound as the full on track tyre, but it has a few more cuts in it to shift water. I think this is the OEM tyre on the GT3 RS if I'm not mistaken. I think this is the tyre to get.

It would be an interesting comparison between the R888 and the system corsa. Is the R888 not a more track focused tyre? Also, are prices similar? I know that the full track corsa tyres are more expensive but how about the systems?

i seriously doubt the system corsa will grip aswell as the toyos, but wet handling is bound to be better.
Had my toyo r888s (on my gt3) on their second track day this week at brands and yet again they were superb. Wear isnt looking too bad (though it was only an evening event) and grip is still terrific. Barely got any tyre squeal the whole evening and the car didnt put a foot wrong.
I am starting to think these are a seriously good/cheap alternative to cups.
Re. track corsas...I was at Bedford with steve on Saturday, and our friend sean in his 996 turbo was on track corsas.
It started pissing down at about 11am (hence I took the scooby not the gt3) , but I was amazed at how much wet grip sean was getting out of his pirellis. It was only when there was a large amount of standing water, by 2pm ish, that he lost it and spun off.
