did you get a full tank of fuel?

Just wondering who,out of all those people that bought brand new cars, got a full tank of fuel in their vehicle.A friend was just saying he bought a new Ford Focus from the main dealer on Friday and it ran out of fuel before it got 3 miles to the fuel station.Sounds a bit cheeky to me as all my Toyotas came full to the brim.

I'd guess it depends whether the 'on the road' price includes fuel or not.

I believe as a general rule the cars dont come with a full tank but usually it's down to the sales persons discretion and its used as a bartering tool......

I know i've never gotten a tank of fuel.....although i didnt get a red bow on my new car once!

I got stung with this too...

When I bought my Fiesta I got a full tank (that was policy)... and when I looked to trade it in, I was told to return it with a full tank - ona like for like basis...

However.. I chose a different dealer in the end... but stupidly returned it with a full tank... only to find the Puma I'd just picked up, was running on fumes...

Wrote a letter of complaint to the dealer manager... got reimbursed...

i guess the lesson from this is take cheque book and full jerry can when buying a Ford.

Both BMW's (one new, one used) I bought had a full tank of fuel, as did the (new) Subaru. The (used)TVR didn't!! Although I did get some money back from the Tiv dealer eventually, for them being crap (tank of fuel, 2 new tyres, and a TVR trackday).

The BMW's both came with a huge bouquet of flowers for Mrs Griff2be too.

The last car I bought (last week, for less than a grand) came with half a tank of petrol. I didn't discover how generous this was until I went to top it up to the full tank and found that it needed another 35 quid to get there.

Handbook, rummage, eeek! 80 litre tank.

my mums just bought a mini - though has not recieved it yet, and included in the on the road price is £25 for "mini fuel" so that must be around 3/4 of a tank i would imagine...

a friend of hers who bought a Cooper S a while back said his wife got a bouquet of flowers (etc...) when he picked up HIS Mini...

her last (current) car was a Rover and she was lucky if she got her car back let alone fuel and/or a smile...

I did the full monty when I got my car... Full tank of petrol, mats and flaps... and they even filled the tank when I took it in for the first service...

Mine was only marginally out of the red, but the garage helpfully pointed out where the nearest petrol station was. Thanks (!)

My A4 had a full tank when I received it, even though it had been driven 100 miles from the dealer to me. I guess he must have fuelled it again en-route.

Also, the "miles left" indicator was over 500 and I've NEVER got it above 450 since - god knows how slow they were driving it down the M4!

The (now defunct) Ford dealer in Brighton used to give customers a voucher for a full tank to be used at the nearest petrol station.

I think little things like that distinguish excellent service from the merely adequate...

Thats what Ford USA do. When I bought the Mustang got a little voucher for the garage up the road.

Dodge and Chevrolet on the other hand...

Dealers argument is that you can have afull tank if you pay the full price for the car. Fair really.

Both new Jags (S-type and X-type) came with a full tank of fuel, per the dealer policy here in the USA...

Interesting note: When I purchased my used Esprit (from a Lotus dealer in West Palm Beach, Fl) it came with a full tank as well. Of course, the salesperson I dealt with went above and beyond the call of duty several times for me on that deal, which included sticking by his regular price quote which was very low

I speak from experience - I sell cars!!!

The unwritten rule in our dealership is £15 - 20 per new / Secondhand Car, but more is at the salesman's discretion (I have to pay 10% of all customers fuel)

Hence - Full Tank = Good deal &/or V. Nice Customers!!!

I can't comment except to say that when I worked at a Rover dealer the rule was a £5 per car MAX!!!

New Tuscan arrives Thursday so we'll see. My p/ex 1964 E-Type has two thirds of a tank of leaded 4 star still in it (available at my local garage at 107p per litre!) I'm too generous.
