599gtb (muttering rotters views)
Discussion
I read the review of the 599 in Autocar last week and the bloke there said it was the best Ferrari road car since the F40. He seemed really taken with it.
Then Tiff Needless on 5th gear said it was seriously fast but not much cop otherwise (poor turn-in, lack of steering feel and poor brakes). Also that the Z06 was a much better car on track (and £110k cheaper).
How much are these views clouded by a top quality all expenses paid lunch or having to hang around for ages before you can get the car on track?
I find it very odd that two people who drive cars a lot can come to such different conclusions.

599 is an overweight beast, weighing in at 1688kgs.
The Z06 weighs 1442kgs, and would embarrass the 599 around a circuit.
It also wipes the floor with the F40 in terms of straightline performance - ask the F40 owner I happened upon on the M40 last month!
Makes for a superb GT too, can get 33mpg cruising at 85-100 on the motorway, and is extremely comfortable and quiet inside on the public roads. Great all rounder and a bargain at 60 grand.
I guess if you like to spend the best part of 200 grand on a car that'll depreciate horribly as soon as you do any kind of mileage in it, and want to pay 5 or 10 grand for a service, then the 599 is the car for you. If you want to go fast and do high mileage on public roads, or indeed on track days, then the Z06 is the only real world alternative to a 911.

t says it all, "the 599 is the best ferrari road car since the f40". the f40 was never the best road car, it was a race car that could be driven on the road.
