I had an accident several weeks ago now but, to be perfectly honest, I havn't felt much like discussing it...especially as I have been unable to find out what happened to the pedestrian.
What happened was...Travellng along the coast road home at a much lower than normal speed, probably doing 55kph in a 50. I'm in the left hand lane of a dual carrageway, aproaching a set of green lights. A woman (mid 20's) is walking across the road from right to left, oblivious that there is a car approaching. I think "She's looked right (as you would in the UK) and seen an empty road...dozy cow" As she was just about to step onto the central resavation, with me about 20-30 metres away, I gave her a blast of the Nautilus to wake her up,hoping she'll be more careful next time.
To my horror she ran back across the crossing in front of me, trying to get to her boyfriend who had waited correctly for the lights to change. I swerved to the right but she just kept running, hitting first the left hand mirror then scraping down the side of the car. She then flopped over the car and the rear spoiler hit her in the arm/chest.
I feel really bad about the girl, I wouldn't wish that on anyone, but I can't feel the least bit guilty for her stupid actions. I do hope she's OK though. I'm just glad there were loads of witnesses to say I was "in the right"
What I do feel is gutted about the car, she ripped the spoiler clean out of the clam on the left hand side! The cars a real mess, to the extent it's being shipped back to the factory for new clams and a spoiler.

did you speak to her then - was she a Brit?!I can sympathise with the way you feel. Years ago i had a similar accident with a guy.. 50ish, just out of the pub, fully tanked up. Walked out in front of me. I avoided most of him but ran over his foot and banged his knee with the front corner of my car.
Loads of witnesses saw what happenened. I was checked for alcohol, but he wasn't! I was clean obviously but I was still warned i may face prosecution. Until he chinned both the ambulance driver and the traffic cop because he didn't want to go to hospital!!!!!
Still left me feeling i could have avoided hitting him though..

You'll go over and over it again for ages, totally natural, and doesn't change the facts that sometimes things in life just go wrong.
The car is the easy bit as it's just GRP, the girl's injuries I assume weren't that serious, and to be honest, knowing you well, you probably did much better to lessen them than another driver. Console yourself, if you can, that if it had been an Artic should wouldn't have needed an ambulance as there would have been little point.
On the GRP side, you can do lots of things to repair, but if the insurance company is paying, then just remember it's your right to have new clam where appropiate.
Take care, and take the time you need to get it straight in your head.

No way you need a new clam! I pulled the spoiler off on one side and punched a good 2" round hole in the back and that was fixed by my local body work chap.

Mate, having seen the damage and the place where it happened, I don't think you should be feeling guilty.
We are all guilty of looking the wrong way in foreign lands and these things do happen.
IYou could not have done anything to avoid it and the fact that she ran back across the road, from a bar, reassures you that she must have been fully tanked.
The car can be sorted. I hope that the lass if fixed up too.
Your damage did look to me, as if it would benifit from a pair of new clams, seen as its an insurance claim. If it was out of your pocket then I would have the clams fixed, but I agree that you should get new ones.
You'll forget about it all once its fixed up mate.
Looking forward to seeing you in Le Mans mate. Just sorry that the turquoise mean machine won't be with you!

It's strange running people over. I went over a lads leg in the EVO (he's 'mate' pushed him into the road) and broke it in a number of places. At the time I was just annoyed he made me late for work. A while later it did play on my mind for a bit but it was only a passing phase.
Coming back to get the car when it's done? We could all invade Finchingfield (hey the sun's out, it's about time) and talk about er cars probably
