Correct gearing V Ultimate power

Why is it that so much attention is paid to any/every engine possibility and very little to correct gear ratio alternatives/choice.I am as interested as the next Ultima owner as to that 'more powerfull/high tec engine combo' that may just be the best thing since sliced bread but can't help feeling that until the issue of correct gearing is addressed,little further progress is likely to be made as to the outright capabilities of the Ultima.

You're so right Wayne. As an engine builder, I may be doing myself an ($$$!)injustice, but most gains in the performance of these cars will be coming from correct gearing & traction; extra power makes very little real difference to these cars, most have a power to weight ratio far in excess of what can be demonstrated in measured performance.

Maybe it's because engines are relatively easy to modify and there are lots of choices, people willing to build the engines, etc, etc. We've got a fairly scarce supply of G50s these days and lack the tools and skills to take them to pieces. This means that the few mods that can be made cost serious £££s.

FWIW I would dearly like to have a Zeroshift gearbox with optimised ratios for my engine and normal usage. It's not going to happen for much less than 2x the cost of an upgrade to a 377ci screamer which would better suit my existing box...
