So, took her out for a proper blast (just to fill her up for the SVA of course 
)
What an amazing feeling - how much torque!!!? Gentle at first - lots of body and suspension creaking and settling, but once I realised nothing was gonna fall off, I opened her up......
HOLY SHITE!!!!! It's just all noise and vibration and sheer terror!!! Makes every supercar I've driven seem like Tomy toys !!!!
Got on OK but the following things are gonna fail it on Monday:
-Heater blower has seized, and when freed it just seems to grind on the casing
-Both wheels rub on headlamp cowl on full lock.
-As with a previous thread the idle is dificult to control - even when hot. Want's to stall when you come up to a junction.
So I'm drained actually. It's been four months of pretty intense activity. If I can get her comfortably running tommorrow, I'll go Monday, and use it to see what has to be done.
Oh, and is it hot in there!! Better get those screen vents in !!

Any thoughts on either of the two faults I have?
Heater blower is a 'must have' for SVA as are the screen demister vents. I can't think of any specific reason for it jamming so it's upside down in the foot-well until you find the offending piece.
Leave the headlight cowls off for the SVA but you may still need to bend the terminals on the back of the bulb. If you're coming to Goodwood tomorrow then you can look at mine to assess how much needs to be trimmed out of the covers.

We've just drained the system and are attempting the impossible - taking the blower unit out.
Please , please tell me this is possible????

Pete there is a small venting grill on each side of the blower (one for each fan). i seem to remember a couple of years back some builders discovering that the grills would foul the fan and cause them to stall, so i took mine off before installing. perhaps you could 'pop' these out without taking the unit out first. could be a quick relatively simple fix.

Thanks for your offer Steve - there is only just enough room for me under there - would be a bit cosy with both of us feet skywards. Mind you I think the girlfriend might appreciate the new 'Ultima Dash' position added to the database!
I'm merrily snipping more of the blower bracket and trying to ease it out wher the steering column was.
Moral of this story? Fire up you blower on the bench before you fit.

You'll need to get the speedo sensor a lot closer (between 1mm and 0.5mm). I'd also make sure that the middle of the sensor lines up with the teeth. My sensor has a little raised bump in the middle of the end. This is the sensor coil itself. If it is off to one side the output will be vastly reduced especially at low speed.
First time I drove my car I discovered that the speedo didn't read despite having tested it when up on axle stands...turns out in a pre-SVA dashboard tidy up I'd inadvertantly crossed over the two sensor inputs to the speedo...shorting it out. Doh!

Well - heater out(£20 in a brown envelope and I'll tell you how we did it). one of the fan cylinders was offset to one side. It was grinding away at the cowling, heating it - melting, and bonding!!!
Recentered and now to reinstall.

Hope the testers don't read PH! - driving an un-tested, un-registered, un-taxed and more importantly uninsured car on public roads...?
Sorry if that sounds boring and sensible, but an Ultima will draw attention like you wouldn't believe and I'd hate to imagine the consequences had you had an 'incident' in it.

A bit stupid if you ask me, bearing in mind that the Police now have the power to crush your car.
Lucky, yes, stupid no. Insurance on chassis number of course.
As you know, there is no offence to ride to a pre-booked SVA test. Do you honestly thing that no one has tested Speedo, ride height, handling, basic operation until the morning of the test?
Still no speedo. And I don't think Mr SVA tester will need to read this to spot that!!

Sorry to tell you but speedo accuracy is part of the SVA test. They run the car up to 40mph on the rollers and check that the speedo reads within 10%.
You have programmed the speedo with pulses per mile? (assuming it is the standard factory speedo). I can e-mail you instructions on how to do this if you like. Out of the box the speedo won't give a reading.

Crafty - a word of warning about driving with no rear clip......Don't!!
The temptation is to trial some speed but this just leads to a shower of gravel!!! You'll be picking it out of your manifold for days!!
