I have completely lost my bottle here and in need of some advice, or better still if anyone can lend me half an hour of their time?

I have changed the coils, noticed a split in one. When i changed there was no misfire, running very well (that will teach me).

Connected all back up, had a misfire. Assumed i had been an idiot and connected up HT leads wrong. Checked here and used both sequences shown here.

www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?t=262327&f=6&h=0&hw=coil+packs

Connecting as per diagram i get a bad misfire. Using the way Davidn did it it runs but still not right, still def missing.

I assumed then i had damaged an HT lead or two (standard TVR), so bought a set from Trackcar...installed this afternoon.

Nope...Misfire still there!

All injectors are providing fuel, i am running without pipes on and i can see it.

Very, Very fed up

If you've been running with the HT leads crossed over, it's possible you've fouled some of the plugs so they won't run cleanly even when you correct the HT fault?

yup Peter is right in that if you fuel-foul a plug it rarely seems to return to full health again no matter how much heat you dump into it .. replace all the plugs again and see what happens then .. if you're still struggling it's time to call in professional help .. there may be something obvious to the trained eye that you're not picking up on.

Time for trained help then.

All plugs looked fine, very little oil on any of them which i suppose is a good sign?!

All HT leads reseated, double checked every one. second cylinder forward from passenger seat, cylinder 5 spits occasionally, so i guess the problem is there somewhere but i am damned if i can find it.

Got to find someone very local now!!! I am in Bromsgrove if anyone has any suggestions.

I hate being beaten

Have you tried swapping the HT lead and then the plug on #5 with another to see if the symptom persists? That should eliminate either a dodgy lead (notwithstanding they're new) and/or plug? Finally I'd even switch all the coil pack connections from one to the other to eliminate a possible faulty new coil too? Just my humble thoughts before you seek professional help

you get occassionl spitting back through the inlets anyway .. i'd wager teh airflow through that inlet is slightly higher than the average airflow so that one's running slightly weaker .. a classic pre-requisite for spitting through the inlet. By removing the induction hoses you also can't contain any fuel stand-off which exagerrates the spitting back aswell. the spitting back in itself doesn't concern me at this time.

Are you sure it's actually misfiring though? have you touched a cable tie to each exhaust manifold branch to isolate which are running cold?

Thanks for all the advice, particularly over the spitting inlet.

Have swapped back to the old coil pack (that one that was ok). Problem still remains. Also swapped leads around, but havent tried the cable tie test, will do tomorrow, i am pretty sure its misfiring?! Having said that i am questioning myself with not being able to bottom this one...

Also fitting a new set of plugs to be sure. I am quite sure now that the leads are connected in the correct order, as the old coil packs had the faint markings from the previous change where they were obviously labelled!

Also got the laptop to connect up to see if that throws anything, anything i should be looking for in particular?

Ok, just thought i would say thanks for everybody's help

Particulalry Green V8S and Joolz from Trackcar

Changed the spark plugs and misfire gone

Took her out for a blast and she is on good form, but not her best.

Hooked up the laptop and cleared fault codes, reset adaptives, but AFR's bad and a couple of other things not right.

I will do some research on this one...if anyone wants to point me to some good threads on interpretting the ECU diagnostics i would be grateful
