www.xvsxp.com/

I personally think the site is slightly biased in one direction (I won't say which), which annoyed me after a bit. But still, some of it is interesting reading.

Let battle commence!

Macintosh OS 10 Tiger release date - 29/4/05
Microsoft Windows Xp release date - 25/10/01

Almost 4 years age difference. Is this Macophile so desperate to 'score' his OS higher?

On a like for like basis, it would be more honest to rate OS 10 against a Vista CTP release.
But I suspect the site owner didn't like the results so much...

I've not used Vista but I think it will probably beat OSX.

I'm not really fussed how good Macs are, it's just one of the things I can't see me changing in the near future, I like my PCs.

I have a 3.15Ghz PC with all the trimmings and a 1.25Ghz Mac G4 with all the trimmings.
They are both good in there own way.

Here's a good site if you like this sort of futile pissing contest:

Its just so tedious this Apple VS PC thing.

Personally, I don't care as they both have strenghts and weaknesses. The Apple looks nice and is very good at certain things DTP etc and the PC has its own strenghts i.e. is considerably more adaptable, is cheaper and far more versitile.

I work in a Windows environment and have a MCSE but I would equally work in a Apple environment. We have some MAC's at work and I can get on with them as well.

I have a PC at home as it is cheaper, does more and I can test new products on it. I wouldn't mind a Apple but for me, there is no reason to buy since I have a PC and work Laptop.

Plus I like to play GTL!

None of this was suppossed to be tedious - I perhaps presented the site I found the wrong way. It was suppossed to compare various features, and I thought maybe people might talk about it's comparisons, and see what they thought. Maybe we might learn something new for once.

not really. if it's a question of what you can get if you buy a computer now (which it is for 99.9% of people), then vista is irrelevant

think of it like a car mag - they dont test the new 3 series with the development mule of the next c class, they test it against all its rivals that are currently for sale.

I did see this report on the latest beta of Vista:
here
Some of the comments are a bit bizarre, as he's criticising faults that are obviously beta gremlins.

Of note though is that Vista is very relevant to people buying new PCs (particularly laptops) as the 128MB video recommendation seems to be more like a requirement.

What - you mean we'll think it's OS X until we see the Start button?

Anyway by the time Vista finally makes GM then we'll have Leopard...

As I said, it's a boring pissing contest. Use the right tool for the right job - I find I can use a Mac for everything I want to do, but the bottom line for business use is that you're going to be limited to whatever will run your essential apps.

I really don't get people who try to compare Mac OS X to any version of Windows or indeed to any other modern GUI. And let us be honest it isn't the underlying engine that people seem to be comparing (on-the-fly defragment, driver caching, preloading, etc.) but just the eye candy aspects.

Most of the current crop of GUI's have all been designed from practically the same useability studies in to GUI design and interaction, they might well have their own unique variations but you can practically gatrantee that they will all look pretty similar and do similar things.

Even KDE4 is going to have Vista/OS X esque stuff in it apparently because they're using the same reports to build on.
