How is your nose?

Hi all,

I wanted to do a quick survey and find our how often you all respray those nose cones (or would want to).

Does the paint quality vary like most things ala Trevor, with some good and some crap?

I even assume that colours (and undercoat colour) has an impact on the visibility.....

Tricky one this, I always wondered why TVR did not colour code their grp so at least some of it was blue, red, green etc so the chips would not show up as much.

Mine was sprayed last May, needs another, though this is due to vandalism (some tw@t tried to pry the badge off). No big stonechips as such...

Mine's a mess and is getting sprayed in the next few weeks. It's a year old.

I'm going to ask them if they can tint the primer (which I had done on the Polo) so that the stonechips don't show up as much...

bastard! some parents should be terminated.

the only time i'll get stone chips sorted out properly via a respray is when i come to sell it... no point otherwise, as even with stone chips i get the same pleasure out of the car...

I used to respray mine once every couple of years -- ie about six months after I started to get p*ssed off at the stone chips...

For some reason I never pick up many stone chips on any car I've owned. Maybe it's because I keep a good distance from the car in front, so the stones hurled up don't smack into my car ????

Don't know, maybe I'm lucky. Not in a lottery sense though

Mine was last sprayed almost 3 years ago, more as a result of a accident than stone chips. It is still virtually un-marked. The paint is a solid colour, not metallic. Previous experience with another marque suggested that metallic paint is more brittle, whilst solid colours absorb the impact rather than chip. Don't know if that is true, but the dealer at the time told me so....

I went to the factory last Friday to spec the Tamora for delivery in early April . During the visit I had a useful chat with the guy in charge of the paint shop - extremely knowledgable and approachable - who showed my partner and I the results of testing an anti-stone chip invisible coating for the vulnerable areas. As a result, I'll be having this anti-stone chip paint applied to the Tamora. Not that it helps you straight away, but for a future respray.....

I had the whole car resprayed August 2001 and apart from 2 tiny stone chips (I heard the stones when they connected, at the time) the rest of the cone is vitually unblemished.

I've seen some cars, not much older than my respray, and they look like they've been sandblasted. Makes me wonder whether GRP contributes to chipping, the paint has not been applied very well or the quality of the paint is poor.

It seems like this Griff I saw may have been a bad case (it was awful)... Any ideas of the ballpark price for the Armourfend treatment?

I did look on the website and could not work out how permanent the applications is (basically sticky-back plastic with optically clear properties)...

Until it's scratched, chipped and discoloured in the sun. Then I think it looks far worse than plain old stone chips.
