Hi

I am looking to improve my driving skills by taking an advanced driving course. Just wondering what anyones experiences with Ride Drive are - seems pretty good from the website (though a tad expensive). On the other hand there is the IAM - much cheaper of course which is a bonus but there seems a bit of negativity on this forum with them at the moment.

Anyone taken these courses or have any opinions

Thanks

Kinky

Astral,

Whereabouts in the Country are you?

For the record - I have no experience with Ride Drive, but have passed IAM. I can understand the negativity behind the IAM, but I have to confess I don't have that perception or understanding at all. You have to remember - it's all volunteer-based - and some regions/groups fare better than others - in terms of longer waiting times, etc.

I will confess I was a bit apprehensive towards IAM before I started. But when I actually started I loved it.

There's many folk on here with comprehensive experience of both - and would be better placed to advise further.

Regards,

K

Astral - the IAM ain't perfect by any means. BUT I would recommend it to anyone. If you are a thinking driver, that enjoys driving, you almost can't fail to enjoy it, and get something out of it.

However, depending on the car you have, RideDrive may be more suitable. If you have a high performance vehicle, there are options for you to get the most out of it (while always driving within the law, obviously!!!).

As a start though, you can't go wrong with IAM/Rospa.

Astral - if you don't mind, I would like to suggest you provide the folk here with a bit more detail about your driving experience and how you feel about driving at the moment. Are you, for example, young and a relative beginner? What do you think your problems are? In what ways do you feel you are having difficulty? What is it that needs improving? What style of approach and teaching method would best suit your attitude to driving?

The popular advice may well be to go with the IAM, but it might not be best for you. It may be worth considering other options before deciding. Quite likely most people are very happy with what they achieve with the IAM, but it does not suit everybody. Good luck anyhow.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

My God, Dave, finally we agree on something. Well said.

Astral - listen to this man, he knows what he's talking about (apart from the speeding that is!!!).
