VXR High Brake Lights

Just been looking at the back of my VXR (as you do).

I've noticed there is a LED brake light in the spoiler that works, but also another LED brake light in a pod on the rear parcel shelf that doesn't light up.

Am I right in guessing that the inside one is now redundant (legislation or practicallity)??

If I wanted to remove the inside light pod - what's underneath it? Anyone been digging??
