It had to happed at some time, ive been followed by bib a few times but never stopped. Not had a front plate for about 2 years on the Esprit but after picking it up on Saturday, shooting along the A46 i was stopped by a bib motorbike.

He had a call from an unmarked car down the road. I gave the excuse the car was dirty so the sticky stuff to hold the plate would'nt stick, i had the plate next to my seat. He burst out laughing & told me to stop pulling his leg! He then did a plate check, made a joke that someone nicked the engine as i was checking the clutch fluid as he was on the radio, then just told me to do him a favour & place the front plate in the window. He then let me go.

A really nice down to earth guy, because of his chilled attitude, well i went home, washed the car.... & stuck the plate back on!

If you read this in conjunction with the 'Inevitable, 36 in a 30' thread, these are two exact examples where through bad policy/policing eroded trust in the police and where good policy/policing has reinforced the good opinion of the police force AND got the desired effect on keeping inside the law.

As author of 'inevitable' I just wish I had run into the "good" cop!! Maybe nice robots are the way forward?

Sorry to hear about your BiB event, I suppose its luck who stops you, what mood he/she may be in & even down to their own pet hates. Maybe sometimes its called the 'human element' in policing, sometimes it works in your favour, sometimes not.

I have to admit if when i was pulled he was stroppy & had a bad attitude I wouldnt have replaced the plate.

Glad to hear that one had the decency to act like a real copper. AND, incredibly, he got the real result, you now have a plate on the car.

I polled two plod on the numberplate issue. Not missing ("in footwell", but incorrect font. One said warning, possibly with a requirement to fix and report. Other said £30, no excuses, you knew it was wrong.

Sounds like you got lucky in this little lottery. Given that you knew it was wrong and that you should have been punished for it, I think second plod is looking more sensible...
