Sudden Oil smell - then gone!

Had a blast in my Chim 500 the other day against a TT3.2 - at a rather quick speed, I noticed a sudden stench of oil (top down day) which dissapeared quickly - any Ideas??? The oil level has not dropped noticably and there is no oil on the floor when I parked the car.
Could this be a partially blocked breather suddenly cleared??? BTW the TT was behind me so it wasn't him/her/it

A slightly leaking rocker gasket? The extra blast made the manifold hotter but it has now burnt away so smell gone?

Could be you drove past something that smelt of oil?!
