Earlier today my girlfriend was pulled over for doing 60 in a 50 zone in her S2000. Fair enough I said to her as she drew attention to herself by overtaking the police car at the time. The problem is that the police also had a good look at her car and booked her for having near slick rear tyres.

This came as a complete surprise to her as she had not really thought to check the tyres having only had the car MOTd a few months ago. To most of us this is obviously a basic error on her part and I am sure not one she will be making again. She was told that she will be getting 3 points for speeding and possibly a further 3 per tyre making a potential total of 9 points - oh and did I mention she already has 3 on her lisence for a previous minor indescretion. From her description of the turn of events it seems to me that she was treated quite harshly by the feds and given some blindingly inaccurate info from them and possibly some wrong paperwork. My question is does anyone know of a solicitor who specialises in Motoring Law who could stop them throwing the book at her, a job and car that she loves is possibly at stake. Any recommendations or advice would be much appreciated.

Can't you ask to have faults like that handled through the VDRS thing? (ie get a 14 day fix it note)

I know when a copper noticed my car had a bald rear tyre I was told "I don't want to see it on the road, get it sorted ASAP" (it was sorted the next day)

lucky B*****D

tyres are 3 point normally

tyres and speeding are easy to prove

no brakes very hard to prove but still 3 points they go for the easy things

has to be 1.6 for 90% of the tyre

so rule of thumb is if the police see a bald spot they do you

get a digital vernier and check the depth and if its close you could argue

but come on an s2000 will go through back tyres

and most people spot a police car before overtaking

sorry

Did they confiscate the tyres?

Farmer near us got done and he turned up in court *with* the tyre. Swore blind in was the one on the truck when he as stopped and the Bobby said it wasn’t but there was no proof so he got off.

Tyres on cars, light vans (not exceeding 3,500kg gross weight) and light trailers must have a tread depth of at least 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the breadth of tread+ and in a continuous band around the entire circumference of the tyre.

police usually take the serial number down

you could try re cutting the tyrw

ie like a cut slick
