A friend has just returned from Bruntingthorpe in his 993RS only to find one of his rear tyres has been destroyed. The inside wall has been been torn all the way around the circumference of the wheel.

He now needs a set of rear tyres, 285/30/ZR18. If anybody has a good supplier (cheap is good) of a good tyre..Michelin, Dunlop, Pirelli etc any pointers would be appreciated.

North West suppliers would be good.

The destroyed tyres were a 1000 odd (Road use) mile set of Pirelli P Zero Corsas by the way.

Thanks in advance.

Costco near the Trafford Centre are pretty good for Michelin, especially when they have 20% off deals. Full set of Pilot Sports for less than £600 when I got mine.

I've been searching country-wide for the last 3 days for a full set of Michelin Pilot Sports. Keep getting told that the N1 rated 285/30/18's are available but they cant match them up with N1 rated 225/40/18's. Every place I tried gave the same answer. 'Oh son, they make them in batches...next month it will be different'. Not much help now I'm afraid! Plenty of Pirelli P Zero Rosso Assimetricos around though. Had them on last time and they lasted 6K miles! You should be able to get your choice of rears within 24hrs I would have thought.

kwik fit have 25% off pirelli or continental at the moment which for once makes them competitive.

the continental sport contact 2 or new sport contact 3 are superb tyres and better than pirelli imho - definately comparable to Pilot Sports for wear and grip.

try www.mytyres.co.uk. I got a really good deal last year. They will deliver them to your door - the only downside is that you have to arrange your own fitting

Demon Tweeks in Wrexham always give me a good deal and beat any other prices I have got ( even from internet suppliers). Plus they have the cleanest garage I have seen and take good care of your alloys....

How about www.etyres.co.uk/ Deliver to the door and they fit them. I got a battery from them - very good service.

Good grief! Just got called this morning by Kwik Fit to say they had located a full set of Pilot Sport N1 when all else have failed. Cheaper fitted than blackcircles at £800 for the set.

i wouldnt let those muppets anywhere near any of my cars. in one visit they scratched an alloy, put 1 directional on the wrong way round and WAY overtightened all the nuts.

Beggars cant be choosers at the moment I'm afraid. I watched them the last time and they were fine. To their credit they used plastic sleeved sockets and other sleeves on the tyre removal machine and everything was fine. They torqued the nuts to 130 as reqd. Hope I don't have to come back here and eat my words (touches wood furiously)!

they have some kind of promo on Michelin, Continental and Pirelli at the moment with 25-30% off which I found made them one of the cheapest!!
