Had a bit of an incident yesterday!
Was just approaching an AA van in the outside lane when the wedge took control and decided to apply steering all on it's own. I really have no idea what happened, one minute I am accellerating to overtake and the next the back end is steering itseld first left then right very scary.
Anyway I hit the van first at the back with the front offside then spun round and got him again with the rear near side before parking facing the wrong way on the verge.
The insurance assessor will be going to look at her in a day or two I suspect he will say "write off"
What do folks think will be the scrap value of the remains? I'm wondering whather to buy it back and sell off the parts. Before this happened it was a pristine 280 with just 39000 miles on the clock and totally original in every way.

Do you have the trailing arm suspension or A-frame?
If trailing arm, I'd suggest that the pivot pin for the trailing arm failed. TBH its a crap design and one that was realised early on the the Tasmin Challenge series, probably earlier by folks who were as unfortunate as yourself. If that faild it gives an effect similar to the one you suggest because the only thing holding the wheel inplace is the drive shatf which has a UJ at each end, the lower ling is no where near strong enough by itself to handle the forces involved.
In terms of cost etc etc, yes as soon as an insurance company sees glass fibre damage, it's a write off, however if you buy it back and do the majority of the work yourself, you could have the car as new before too long and potentially be in profit. Obviously you need to be wanting to keep the car because it will be recorded on the HPi register etc and if checked would put off potential buyers. Speak to some of the Wedge indies and even Tasmin Challenge racers, someone somewhere will have a mould of the rear quarter and the mechanicals can be found for sensible money too.

I walked away completely unscathed I'm glad I didn't have a passenger in the car though as they would have been well and tryly shaken up. However, that said, there is no deformation of the passenger compartment.

Anyway, next job is to sort out the insurance. I have agreed value at £4500 which should be ok as this seems to be a little above the current market value at the moment. Fingers crossed for a good outcome.

When the insurance company confirm its a write off, you will usually have first dips on buying the car back - often FROM as little as £30. (Yes thirty quid).
You can fix her up again, doing a lot of the work yourself, or take the insurance payout, sell the bits on ebay, put all the money together and buy a 400!!!!

You are quite right this AA man was a very nice man!
Although he was a bit shaken up and mildly upset that his 2 day old van with 300 miles on the clock that had taken him a day and a half to fit up now has a damaged front and back end and will have to be taken out of service for repairs
Sorry to hear about your accident and I know its early days but here is a rear end if you need one. Never got a bid
