Sort of Corvette related this, was wondering whether anyone had read the latest issues of these mags, with 599 GTB Ferra#i on the cover.

Having read cliches and uneducated criticism in some tests of the Z06, I found it quite amusing to see how much praise was heaped upon this overweight beast, which weighs close to 250 kg more (at 1688kgs) than the lightweight Z06. So even with it's alleged 100bhp advantage, this portlyness means that the 599 can only just match the Z06's performance stats (on paper) which to me makes it a waste of an engine. And of course it costs way, way more.
If the Z06 weighed in at 1688kgs, and the Ferra#i 1442kgs, then the magazines would laugh at the fat American car, and write it off as a point and squirt machine with a powerful engine held back by it's sheer mass. The magazines of course said how brilliant the 599 handled and what a lovely ride it has, but with all that fat to carry around I'd be very surprised if it could keep up around a circuit with the Z06.
More proof that these magazines lick Ferra#i's arse to get hold of a car to put on the cover and sell some mags. In 10 years they will run a second hand supercar article revealing all the faults they weren't allowed to write when the car was new.

To be fair J.C. on Top Gear said he couldn't see how the Ferrari at £160k was £100k more than the Z06 and where had they spent the money. Tiff Needell on 5th Gear said the Z06 was a better drivers car than the Ferrari.

So true!

I remember the early tests when the '348' Ferrari was new claiming the usual brilliance, and it was only later we were told of the 'flawed' handling etc.
Similar thing with the '360' once the 430 appeared.

I suppose advertising, loan cars, early access to latest models etc, etc. could dry up if certain executives are offended!

'Autocar' and 'CAR' are amongst the best at these road test'U' turns, I long ago concluded that all initial road tests of prestige/exotic cars should not be taken too seriously.

I hate that kind of writing. I read Fast Bikes magazine for a long time not just because it was amusing to read, but also because they had to buy the bikes they tested as the manufacturers wouldn't give them bikes to test, since they refused to write what the manufacturers wanted to hear and gave their honest opinion. Sadly, that magazine has changed hands now and it's just not the same.

I guess that out of the major monthlies EVO are the only truly independant mag likely to give a reasonably honest opinion, and having met the chaps there I can say that fairly confidently. If you read at least two or three mags you can weigh up the various opinions, take into account the bullshit factor, and make a reasonable judgement on what a particular car is like. Read just one and you'll get a skewed opinion for sure.

I read Evo and agree with you they are more balanced than most and don't seem to have a hidden agenda. Having said that this month they reviewed the Fezza 599 GTB and thought it was the most wonderful thing since sliced bread.

BTW anyone notice the Mosler MT 900 lapped the Evo track 1.4 secs faster than the C6 Z06?

You'd hope so given it's track focus and 300kg mass advantage!
Mosler is a lovely car. Imagine how quick it'd go with a warmed up LS7!

Bought Autocar today and regretted it, finding the pieces low on any depth (Bugatti test, er, they only did a couple of 0-100 runs by the look of things), so will be avoiding that in the future.

Have got the 'noisy' Top gear in question, haven't read yet though. Hoping it's a better read than AC. Noticed Jeremy Clarkson stating how much he feels the Z06 is not a road car, not sure how to base this, guess it's just a touch hard on the behind for his liking.

Can't see his problem, he didn't like the radio, the tyre noise, LHD, blah, blah, blah, yawn on the TV Top Gear.
I won't to details again as it is already on another thread about this but the man is an idiot.
