Griff 500 Starter Motor Heat Soak!!
Discussion
My 99 Griff 500 has the beginnings of starter motor heatsoak, has anyone stripped and reconditioned one? Is it worth it? Is it possible? I am an experienced engineer but dont want to strip it and find it isnt worth messing with and then have to wait for a new one to arrive. Could mean sunny day and no Griff that would be tragic.
Ricko, You need a dave beer modwise starter motor kit. Its a tidy kit that uses a relay relay thingy. to give a bit of extra juice to the starter motor solenoid. Trust me, a recon starter will work for a bit but then will probably start to give up. The wirings so crap between the ignition and the starter solenoid that theres just not enough juice to make the thing engage.
Cheers! Had the car well over 15 months now and only the last week has it started to play up. Where do I get the kit from any useful links you have? any useful tips when doing it? Just been looking at another thread and it says to dith the allen bolts. Is this a good Idea if you use ball head allen keys is this better? If any other bits recommended? do you know bolt sizes so i can get them in advance? Loads of questions but would like to start and finish all in one day> Thanks all for your help. Got to go now I have been told my bath is getting cold!!!

It's £20. The instruction sheet is a bit cryptic but if you follow it step by step its actually very easy to fit. Took about 30 minutes, no problems so far. It involves disconnecting to battery which sets the alarm off so don't do it at midnight unless you hate your neighbours.
David is a top bloke and very helpful as lots of people on here would agree.

Yep got a multimeter and not afraid to use it! do you have the ability to e-mail me offline if not let me know and I will post it on here? As for the bits will have a look and get some ordered. Hoping to get to the Growl this year so I may see some of you helpful chaps there. Again thanks for the tips.
spoke to the chappies at modwise, top guy! I was not suffering from Heat soak. However they advised me to fit an earth from battery to engine to cure the slow starter motor when warm. Done this and it worked now I can fill the car up with fuel whilst on a run and not have to dash there before the heat built up. No more embarassing bump starts for now anyway.
