Another OPC warranty nightmare
Discussion
Well I've been keeping this quiet for a week pending a satisfactory outcome, but sadly yesterday I reached an impasse.
Just after my service last week, the clutch malfunctioned on the turbo. 28k miles, < 4 years old, full Porsche history and warranty. It went suddenly from working perfectly to biting at the floor and juddering.
Porsche assist recovered it to Cambridge where they diagnosed the fault as a broken clutch cover. The spring steel bit in the clutch cover assembly had failed with a radial crack at its perimeter between two fingers. Given the clutch plate was less than half worn and there were no signs of abuse, the service guy there put in a claim with the warranty. They refused to pay because the clutch isn't covered, even though it hadn't worn out or been abused.
I then took it up with Porsche customer services who spoke to me yesterday bouncing the claim citing, bizarrely, that a previous owner (5 months ago!) must have driven the car hard. I asked why if this was the case there were no signs of abuse anywhere, but the guy went into stuck record mode so I told him to speak to Cambridge and get their stories straight.
The service guy at Cambridge has never seen anything like this before.
Question is, what do I do next? I've had to cough 2500 quid to replace a clutch that wasn't even halfway through its service life owing to a mechnical failure, and Porsche don't care despite my paying handsomely for an inspection, services and of course a warranty.
I'd be very interested in hearing the collective's view.

that pic clearly shows a mechanical failure to me on the plate.
this is not wear and tear if you ask me so pursue it and push hard.
I had the same with my radiators as the parts failed and they should be warrantied.
a mate of mine had the clutch fork break and it was covered.
get hold of the MD and pus him hard.

2 key pieces of information you missed out....
- how long have you owned it
- did you buy it from a main dealer?

As i have said before...forget the warranty on these cars and buy them cheaper privately..Porsche dealers and specialists who invariably buy in crap cars that need work done on them(that gives max profit)charge a huge premium for the 'warranty' gag that they dont want to honour anyway...Save the bid/offer spread purchase price initially and the £1k per year warranty cost, stick it in the bank and use the money to pay for repairs if you get unlucky...25 years and 60 vehicles later i have had one warranty claim on a CSl and spent 6 months arguing with them about whose fault it was.By my reckoning i can now spend £25k on a fault and come out flat

I am sick of OPC warranties.
I pay the £725 per year to have the extended warranty on my 2002 TT
Last year the front offside brake calliper sheared off, and when taken to porsche centre Leeds, they found the bolts were the wrong length - All work has been carried out by OPC's but their attitude was that They could have been changed at some point by a third party!!
It ended up costing me £5k
Then Last week one of the coolant hoses from the front radiator split, and you guessed it - NOT COVERED!!!
What the hell is covered - I am sure they could write what IS covered on the back of a match box.

I disagree, i have bought competitively from several OPC's. To a degree that I would be well out of pocket for the £15k gearbox my 996 required a couple of years back.
A Ferrari is an even bigger risk. As I had 2 oil leaks (repair cost £6k) in the first 6 months.
There is a difference between the supplying dealer being under obligation to resolve defects and a car with a warranty to cover mechanical failure of selected components only (exluding W&T)

if you bought the car from Leeds and only had it serviced there then experience would suggest they would have struggled to refute the claim.
the calipers are removed to change the brake pads, when / where did you have this done last?

See my previous comment....its like Dixons offering a 3 yr warranty on a Tv for £100..its pointless and the reason they offer it is coz they wont pay for it..in the case of a tv they just very rarely go wrong in 3 years ..but in the case of a porsche they just swerve the issue and blame something else... I pay the £725 per year to have the extended warranty on my 2002 TT

To say the pressure plate isn`t a service / wear item isn`t quite the case. The fingers in the pressure plate will weaken / bend / cause a stiff clutch over time and the metal mating surface with the friction plate (the brake pad like ring) can crack / and or deteriorate causing the same symptoms as a worn / damaged flywheel.
That said the crack in your pressure plate is just that, a crack. It`s broken. It was in one whole piece it`s now not, and the crack hasn`t occured through wear. Nothing touches that part of the plate to cause it to wear thin. With our warranty that would be a eprfect claim.
If you were changing the whole clutch, as you should do then the warranty company would be within their rights to ask for a betterment contribution (your clutch was half worn, it`s now brand spanking new), but they would still have to be dipping their grubby hands into the kitty.

Re: contacting the powers that be at the mother company good luck. I don`t think your letter will be the only letter on the desk at the moment and I think there might be more weighty problems to deal with so don`t hold your breath.
