I'm just coming up to 10k in about 10 months - I think that's roughly average and expect that rate to drop once I work out of home again (as opposed to Brighton)

What effect does the mileage have on these cars depreciation rates given that I've seen lots of cars for sale with quite low miles for their years?

Hi Nige,

Whatcar has a depreciation index www.whatcar.com/depreciation-index.aspx that'll give you a rough idea.

Average or high miles has never put me off as a buyer of any large American V8 engined car due to their longevity but it has been my experience in the past that any excuse to reduce the price given in PX is jumped on by any dealer. Doesn't affect the retail price too much they ask though Car Dealer = Rip Off, some better than others of course but they want to take your money period.

There will always be a market for these cars, sell privately to get best price / maintain their true value.

It's amazing how much cars lose in the first year compared with the foloowing few. I put in a 6.0VXR and an XJR and the first year losses are striking, yet they both level out sensibly in years 2-5.
