'leccy aerial on the S3 is dead... and stuck at half mast!

Anyone know what it was from...? - or is it just a generic part that I replace at Halfords or wherever?

If you get someone to help you, dont look down on the aerial when they turn the radio on.......it will have your eye out .Other than that its easy, just connect it up to the same wires that the old one was connected to,took me about 10 minutes.I did put sealant rount the top just incase it leaked into the boot.

If its like mine, the chrome dome on the outside unscrews, allowing the body of the aerial to drop into the boot.

Mine does the same - more important things mean I have left it for a while but would be grateful if you would let me know how it comes off Podie - mine just spins around when you try and undo it! Was going to have a look under the carpet in the boot this weekend but ended up replacing my front indicators and a few other bits and bobs.

We're talking about the dome shaped bit that touches the body, yes? If that won't unscrew there's something funny going on. What I would expect to find is, the top of the aerial mechanism is threaded and sticks up through the body, with a metal 'see-saw' affair to stop it coming up too far. From the outside, a chromed metal dome fits over the body of the aerial, and is held on by a nut which is probably also chromed. The extending bit of the aerial comes up out of a hole in the center of this nut. The aerial may have some fancy chromed top on it, but that's not relevent - you're looking for a nut which is fixed relative to te car. Between the dome and the body is a plastic/rubber moulding which can pivot sideways to accomodate different angles between the bodywork and the aerial. The bit you can see from the outside just looks like a thick plastic washer between the body and the chrome dome.

The bit you need to undo is the nut. If you turn the whole dome, the nut will normally turn with it.

BTW if this doesn't sound anything like your aerial, then you have a different type and you're on your own, sorry!

Hope this helps,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

Right... finally removed the damn thing... bought a replacement from Halfords... fitted it... no problems... looked quite swish!

Wired it up (as per the headunit manual and the instructions for the aerial)... turned on the ignition... switched on the radio... aerial goes up! (and reception noticeably better!).

Turned off radio... aerial stays up.

Turned off igition... aerial stays up.

Bloody thing! What's going on here then? Help!!!

Holds hand up.

Someone tell me I'll get to go out more when the kids get older...please.

Maybe you've tightened the collar too much and now the aerial is extended the housing has bent and it won't wind back in and you've now blown the aerial fuse (if there is one).

Good luck,

Mark
