Having been to Le Mans on four previous years, we've never actually got round to finding Arnage. We'd love to get there this year.
Whats the best way to get there before and during the race, maybe by car before the race but probably on foot?

Just a tip for anyone camping in Beausejour arriving on the Thursday or later, head for Arnage then use the D 92 to get to the campsite.

Sat Nav will take you a different way and you'll end up amongst the road closures.

I've got these directions for getting there from the outfield:

Arnage / Indianapolis
Walking to Arnage is quite easy, but obviously depends on where you are starting from. These instructions are from the Maison Blanche campsite near the entrance to the circuit on the outside of the track.

1. Walk down the road south with the track on your left (Maison Blanche on your left, Camping Bleu on your right), you will be going in the opposite direction to the cars.

2. After about ¼ of a mile you come to a roundabout (left here leads to Beausejour / Technoparc / Karting etc.) Turn right at the roundabout headed towards Arnage.

3. There are a couple of turnings into side roads (Chemin de bordages etc.) - all closed off. At the first turning you can use on the left, turn left and follow this road for a couple of miles.

4. Arrive at Arnage, buy chips and beer and awe at the spectacle.

On the infield, go past the karting towards the Porsche curves, go through the back of the Beaujour camp site then keep heading towards the track, you'll need to pass through various fields and over fences. Eventually you'll get to a corporate hospitality and viewing area on the inside of the track.

its not a roundabout but a crossroads where you turn right, its a good 2 miles if not a bit more. Its easy to get down there in the car on Friday or early Saturday morning or after the start.

I'm confused about the Beausejour bit?

Anyway, from the Karting track.

Get to the gate turn right and follow the road to the end. Turn Right, go past Beausejour on your left under the bridge beneath the Porsche curves and go straight over the roundabout.

Stay on that road for a couple of miles and bear right at the mini roundabout, 1/4 mile up the road is Arnage village

Or were you talking about Arnage corner

Stay on that road for a quarter mile and cross over the junction, after a further 2 miles along this road you will find Arnage village.

Its better in the car or on bike

Ummm...how to make the simple complex.

Tripps instructions are cool - they are mine posted last year in fact.

From Karting you need a bit of Mr Ralston applied though i.e. back under the track at the Porsche Curves and straight across the roundabout.

Follow that road for about 3/4 mile until you hit the outskirts of Arnage village - if you cross the railway you went too far - when you see blue/white warehouse in front of you take a left turn. This is the long bit if the walk - seems to take forever. Destination is worth it.

If driving beware two things -
1. Police try to keep it one way so your return will take you in a roundabout route throuh monce en belin and back into Arnage village which get pretty congested at times
2. Unless you leave it until early hours of the morning (when the views are best anyway) you can sit in traffic for a long time.

My best shot at helping...have walked it every year to 18 out of the last 20 years so should be accurate...

Neil, how long does it take to walk from Beausejour?

Oh no not the time question!

Everyone seems to walk at a different pace etc.

It can take half an hour to walk out of BSJ for kick-off etc.

BUT from the entrance of Beausejour I reckon -
1. 30 minutes to the turning by the blue/white warehouse
2. 1 hour to 1 hour 30 to Arnage.

We used to deposit stashes of beer on the way there - 6 bottles here, 6 there etc. and stop to drink them on the way back - great incentive for that next 20 minute stint and a lot less weight to carry.

Also had plenty of luck thumbing lifts there too - worth hanging your thumb out...

Best solution was bringing along a mate who was happy to stay sober and drive us out there thought ;-)

Neil,

Can you delete your post? I'm going to do it anyway, but if one of my party sees this, I'll be doing it on my own!

Cheers
